It's playoff time in the BLB! The last week of the season featured some close races as Indianapolis went 3-3 to hold off Santo Domingo to capture the Lager, while Syracuse went 4-2 to hold off Wilmington and capture the Ale. Meanwhile the Sharks went 4-2 to take the last wildcard spot from Hartford (who did all they could by going 5-1) and Carolina went 5-1 to not only hold off Phoenix but jump Baltimore to give the Tobs home field against the Bulldogs.

Performance of the Week
C Josh Allen - He started off October with a bang against New York with three hits, two home runs, seven runs batted in, two walks, and two runs scored in a 15-4 victory. The 32 year old was undrafted back in 2024 and signed a minor league contract with the Bats. He blossomed into one of the biggest surprises in recent BLB history and made it to the show in 2026. He's now been Washington's starting catcher for the last 10 seasons and this year hit .230/.359/.430 with 24 HR's and 71 RBI's.
Injury of the Week
C Dave James - On October 4th he went down with a strained oblique during a collision at home and will be day to day for a week. He's the Rum Runners starting catcher but splits time with Alex Santiago in a duel effort to replace Ian 'Pickles' James. Sadly for Santo Domingo fans we know that will never happen. He made a good effort though by hitting .256/.311/.414 with 9 HR's and 31 RBI's. Sadly 'Pickles' matched those numbers in just July.
Prospect of the Week
1B Josiah Bisson - Drafted 2.8 in 2032 by Toronto the native Texan destroyed AA ball this season by hitting .368/.429/.558 with 18 HR's and 83 RBI's in 119 games. He was named the AA Wort Outstanding Hitter and won the Platinum Stick award at first base. At only 21 years old scouts and coaches loves both his work ethic and humble attitude.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Congrats to Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope and R.J. Kapper for leading the IL and DL in batting average. Swope hit .344 while Kapper hit .346. Fun fact is that the 34 year old Swope has a player option to become a FA next season while the 29 year old Kapper will be a free agent straight out. Looks like free agency in the BLB is alive and well.
2. We'll do a few playoff match-ups now. First up Pittsburgh at Wilmington. The Clowns owned the season series 8-4 and feature the one and only JJ Plumley who just won pitcher of the month after going 5-1 with a 0.80 ERA in September. Unfortunately he just pitched two days ago so he might not be back until game two or later. It might not matter much though as in their 12 games Wilmington outscored Pittsburgh 75-42 and had two shutouts. This is a Millers offense who was second in the DL in runs scored too. The Clowns currently have starters Dave Finney and Micah Scott as well as DH Manny Quezada all on hot streaks. Quezada almost became the DK's new favorite player after hitting 44 HR's and stealing 37 bases. Clowns in 4.
3. Miami at Santo Domingo. The Rum Runners had a nightmare end of the regular season when they lost seven straight and dropped out of 1st in the Lager to Indy. They almost made it up the last week but fell two games short. Instead of getting the week off the 102 win team has to host Miami who they played to a 6-6 tie in 12 meetings this season. The Rum Runners are 55-26 at home while the Sharks are 37-44 on the road which should help. What should also help is that Santo Domingo is first in the DL in ERA, starters ERA, bullpen ERA, runs allowed, hits allowed, opponents average and BABIP. It was a heck of a run by Miami who went +15 since August but we think this is the end. Rum Runners in 4.
4. Seattle at Washington. The last time they met in the playoffs Washington beat Seattle in the ILCS then beat Hartford to win the 2032 Brewmasters Cup. Can the Pilots get revenge? So far this year the Bats have the series advantage 7-4 and scored double digit runs in three of those games. Not wanting to be embarrassed Seattle scored double digit runs in two of the games. Gone are the elite pitching staffs that used to define these teams and instead we have 126 runs between them over 11 games. If it turns into a slugfest we think the Pilots will have the advantage. They are 2nd in the IL in runs scored while Washington is 6th in runs allowed. The one thing that might be the difference is that Seattle is an even .500 since the end of July and just can't seem to get the train rolling after being +20 in May, June and July. Bats in 5.
5. Baltimore at Carolina. The Bulldogs only had to win one game in their final series with New York to get HFA and instead lost 2-1, 7-4 and 7-4. A sweep might have even moved them into the top wildcard spot. Alas, what could have been. Instead though they actually get the better match-up since they went .500 against the Tobs this season. Bad news for Baltimore is that Rory Elia, Phillip Kloph and Dave Hoyt are on hot streaks. Together the big three have combined for 137 home runs and 373 runs driven in. That's...well...scary. Good news for Baltimore is that they got back Dusty Dills and Lemarr Nuanes both in September. They both missed over four months each with torn labrums after reaching double digit wins for the Bulldogs last season. Sadly we don't think it will matter if Carolina stays hot. Tobs in 4.
