  • The 2036 Daily Keg - Week 25

    09/29/2036

    (AP)

The Racers go shooting up the PR with a 6-0 week and overtake the Rum Runners for the lead in the Lager. The DK just discussed how Santo Domingo was able to hold off Indy the last few months but no more as they went a dismal 0-6 and have now lost seven straight. What a time to go ice cold! Other big weeks were Batavia who continues to steamroll everyone by going 6-1, and Wilmington and Baltmore who went 5-1. Wilmington is now the #2 wildcard in the DL and has a three game lead for HFA over Pittsburgh while Baltimore is the #2 wildcard in the IL and has a two game lead for HFA over Seattle.

    Power Rankings

    1) Batavia Red Jackets (136.6, o)

    Performance of the Week

P J.J. Plumley - Part of the reason the Clowns are a leagues best 37-17 over August and September is that Plumley has been untouchable. During that stretch he's 7-1 with a 2.10 ERA and he showed it again on September 23rd against Maine with a 8 inning, two hit, no run, 13 K performance. He's now 13-5 with a 2.48 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 183 ERA+.

    Injury of the Week

P Josh Robinson - On September 22nd against Maine he came in during the 8th, walked a batter and then gave up a single but was bailed out by play at the plate where Harrison Gluck was thrown out. Robinson got tangled up in the play and left the game. He was taken to the locker room and later diagnosed with partially torn labrum and will miss the rest of the season. A big injury for the en fuego Clowns as Robinson was 8-4 with a 3.62 ERA and 1.50 WHIP.

    Prospect of the Week

2B Bart Boon - Drafted 4.2 in the 2034 draft he destroyed A ball this season for Denver by hitting .359/.438/.607 with 18 HR's and 95 RBI's in 91 games. He was named the Herbert Outstanding Hitter and won the Platinum Stick at second base.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. As we approach the last week of the 2036 season it looks like our hopes and dreams of a 40/40 season will fall just short again. This time though instead of just Seth Blankenship having a chance we also welcome Manny Quezada and Roadrunners outfielder Sacco van Gorp to the party. The 26 year old van Gorp is in his second full season and has hit 32 HR's while stealing 40 bases. Quezada meanwhile is at 41 HR's and 35 SB's while Blankenship is at 41 HR's and 37 SB's. Seth was oh so close but failed to steal a single base since September 17th even though he recorded 14 hits from then to now.

    2. Eleven days after recording his 500th home run Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope collected his 2000th career hit. Eleven All-Star games, five Stout Sluggers, seven Designated Drivers, and a 2026 Brewmasters Cup champion and series MVP. To top it off he's 34 and stated he still wants to play another three to four seasons.

    3. In what was a toss up for IOTW the Baltimore Bulldogs beat Philly 5-4 on September 23rd but paid a heavy price when they lost outfielder Zachary Landen to injury. In a 4-4 game he hit a single to start off the bottom of the 12th inning and got to second on a sac bunt. Up came Zion Jackson who hit a single and Landen rounded third and was waved home. In an almost too close to call play at the plate he was ruled safe and the home crowd and Bulldogs players started to celebrate until they released Landen wasn't getting up. He was helped to his feet by several teammates and taken into the locker room. The team doctor later reported he had ruptured his MCL and will be out until at least March of next year. On the year he was hitting .269/.332/.518 with 33 HR's and 73 RBI's.

    4. Week 26 and we still have both division champs in the DL undecided. Also in the DL Wilmington and Pittsburgh will face off to see who gets HFA in their wildcard match-up while Miami and Hartford battle for the fourth wildcard spot. In the IL Baltimore, Seattle, and Carolina are currently second through fourth in the wildcard but only separated by three games while Phoenix is only three games behind Carolina. Finally congrats to Pawtucket who might be 50 games back but hit the 40 win mark with a week to spare. The 1981 California Wildfire will still hold onto the dubious record for lowest wins in a season with 39.

    5. Looking below at the SOTW how is six time All-Star Harry Elliott not in the BLB Hall of Fame?

Thank god. We’ve actually not been the worst team since Allstar break. Still, dreadful. That 22 game losing streak was a helpless feeling.

                  This is how bad...

Their team batting average was 0.214
                  Their team ERA was 4.78
Their team overall Batting WAR was -5.1!

They had SIX pitchers lose at least 12 games!

Only ONE player reached double digits in home runs... This guy had 20

They only hit 73 home runs and gave up 126.

They somehow managed 1.7 million in attendance...

No wonder California fans are so fickle, having lived through that!

I remember looking a lot at that kid in the draft... My scout hated him... Now, my scout sees 55/70/65/55/45, and 'has dynamic tools to make an impact in the majors'... Thanks for nothing now scout!
