California continues to hold the top spot after a 5-1 week that featured a sweep of Washington and taking two of three against LA. Hartford also had a big week by going 5-1 and they are now above .500 and sitting 3rd in the DL wildcard. Washington meanwhile went 1-5, are now back under .500, and find themselves one game back in the IL wildcard hunt.

Performance of the Week
1B J.D. 'Hurricane' Rice - The storied careers of Bulldogs first basemen has continued with the 24 year old. Kellum, Washington, Castor, Chiba, Gosser, Damours, and now Rice. On June 21st against Denver he had four hits, two home runs, drove in four and scored three times in a 9-7 victory. He wasn't the biggest star of the game though as his walk in the bottom of the 9th loaded the bases and set up a Fred Connor walk-off grand slam.
Injury of the Week
P Dave Finney - He's diagnosed with a tired arm and is day to day for a few weeks but losing him long term would be hard to overcome for a team sitting in the final DL wildcard spot. On the year the 32 year old is 5-3 with a 3.09 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 13 starts.
Prospect of the Week
SS Colby 'Mirror' Hullinger - After some reshuffling he's now the top hitting prospect in the league. At 18 years old he was the 3rd overall pick in last years draft by New Orleans and is hitting .251/.311/.337 with 2 HR's and 19 RBI's in 42 games in the Rookie League. His work ethic and intelligence are considered upper echelon and he could be a star down the road.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. What a first inning between Baltimore and Carolina on June 18th. Carolina leads off with a triple, hits a three run home run a few batters later, then a two run home run before Pat Pierce strikes out to end their half of the inning. Up comes Baltimore and Pat Cross hits a solo shot and then poor Tom Healy gets beaned in the back by Tom Benjamin the very next pitch. Healy charges, a brawl breaks out, and they both get ejected. Healy ended up getting five games off while Benjamin got six. The game ended up being exciting right until the end as Baltimore scored four in the bottom of the ninth and had the bases loaded before JD Rice hit an easy fly ball to left to end the game.
2. With a four home run, five RBI, and two stolen base week Seth Blankenship once again leads the entire league in home runs and stolen bases. The 25 year old is hitting .313/.354/.632 with 24 HR's, 59 RBI's and 23 stolen bases. He's on pace for 57 HR's and 55 RBI's. Amazing that the 50/50 club is still in reach.
3. No one crowds the plate like Carolina's Valentin Bastide. In 317 plate appearances he's been beaned a league high 15 times. Ricky Pizarro comes in second and he's at 10 and he's the only other BLB'er who has been hit double digit times.
4. Wilmington continues to be the most aggressive team on the base paths. They have swiped 61 bases this season which leads the majors but they have also been thrown out 23 times. Meanwhile Washington has stolen 54 bases and is third overall, but has only been thrown out 9 times. One surprise for the Clowns is DH Manny Quezada who was signed via free agency this off-season. He's never stolen more than 13 bases in a season yet he leads the team with 18 already and has only been thrown out three times. He also leads the team in home runs and runs batted in. Not a bad pickup for $67,400,000 over five years.
5. The HoF voting is going strong. Please vote HERE. In other news the DK will be away for several (game) weeks on vacation. Filling in will be...no one as of yet but we're hoping someone steps up to the plate! Good luck and stay injury free.
