Performance of the Week
2B Jimmy Brabec - The 25 year old former 1st round pick lit up Denver with two home runs, four RBI's, and four runs scored in a 13-2 victory on June 3rd. Known as one of the best defensive players in the league he's hitting .243/.303/.495 with 16 HR's and 40 RBI's on the season.
Injury of the Week
P Dusty Dills - Another brutal pitching loss for Baltimore as Dills went down on June 8th with a partially torn labrum and will be out for at least four months. On the season the 29 year old was 5-2 with a 2.35 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. He was a front runner for the IL Pale Ale and also had a shot for the Triple Crown.
Prospect of the Week
P Bradley Beehn - The consensus #1 overall prospect in the league is now 3-0 with a 2.29 ERA in three AAA starts this year after going 5-0 with a 1.56 ERA in AA to start the year. Picked 1.15 in the 2032 draft he originally wanted to be a hitter but Beehn's place is now pitching and he could be one of the best the league has seen in a while. Throwing up to 99 mph with five pitches, combined with an outstanding work ethic, this kid is going places.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The youth movement has taken over for position players as #1 Rory Elia (22), #4 Seth Blankenship (25), #5 Robert Jessee (22) and #6 Marco Taylor (22) have all shot up the list in the last season. Those draft picks: 1.8, 1.2, 1.1 and 1.3.
2. California currently has the best record in the league (Editor - they do not...Batavia has the most wins, SDR has the best winning %) and a seven game lead on Seattle in the Bock. This week they meet again for a three game series at In-N-Out Field. Last time they played a brawl broke out, what is in store this time? The Pilots lead the series 2-1 and after this week the final six games all come in September.
3. The Canadians have a shot at the playoffs and it's June, something that hasn't been heard around Toronto since 2026. They currently sit at 26-32 and are two games out of the final DL wild card spot. Pat 'Baja' Arballo (8-2, 2.73 ERA) is everything they hoped he'd be after his huge contract this off-season while Robert 'Stretch' Jessee (.315, 17 HR, 41 RBI) looks to be the face of the franchise for the next decade.
4. Batavia leads the way with 1.2 million fans coming through the turnstiles so far this season which doesn't mean a whole lot since they've played 30 home games while Pawtucket and Washington have played 19. Something that is equal, at least to start with, is that Seattle sold over $40 million in season tickets, which is almost as much as the bottom five of Syracuse, Denver, Phoenix, Montreal, and California combined which was just over $43 million. Apparently California's marketing slogan of "We Don't Suck Anymore" was correct but just didn't generate the buzz they thought it would.
5. The 2036 BLB draft will take place next week as everyone wants to draft the next great star. So far no one from the 2034 and 2035 draft have played in the BLB but several hitters from the 2033 draft have made it, including Carolina's 7th round pick C.J. Harrison. He's back in AAA though and doesn't look like he will be coming back up anytime soon. Some of the greatest late picks...how about Hall of Fame SP Raulo Gutiérrez who was picked by Maine with the last pick of the 6th round in the 1987 draft, and Hall of Fame SP RJ Curtis who was picked by Sin City with the 17th pick in the 6th round of the 1989 draft.
