It's been a long time since we've seen the Kodiaks with the #1 spot in the BLB but they did it after a 5-2 week. They went 1-2 against rival Seattle but took all three from Windy City by outscoring the Blues 21-5 over the series. The winner of the week though was Baltimore who went 6-1, are now 10-1 in May and 1.5 games back from division leader Batavia. Other great weeks were Seattle, Maine, and Pittsburgh who all went 5-1 as the Pilots and Millers are now above .500. The not so great week belongs to Pawtucket who went 0-6 and find themselves 18 games back in the Ale.

Performance of the Week
P Ian Ammons - On May 11th against Baltimore he pitched a one hitter and stuck out seven over seven innings. He got no runs in support and Baltimore won it in the 10th with a two run double by Pat Cross. That one hurts. On the year Ammons is 2-2 with a 2.67 ERA and 153 ERA+ in seven starts.
Injury of the Week
P Tatsuya Okinaka - While Ammons was putting on a clinic on May 11th Okinaka was making the last two pitchers of his career. After coming in during the 8th against Hartford he got Riley Thomas to ground out and was removed from the game with elbow pain. It was later determined that he tore his UCL, the same one he partially tore last season a week after being selected to the 2035 BLB All-Star game. Doctors and Okinaka both agreed that coming back from surgery would be too much and the 29 year old is calling it a career. Drafted with the 1st pick in the second round of the 2027 draft he played in 229 games and posted a 25-15 record with 31 saves and a 2.88 ERA.
Prospect of the Week
RF Devon Stock - The 16 year old is a lifetime .426 hitter in three season for the Jackson HS Polar Bears, won the 2035 Platinum Stick in right field, and was selected to the 2036 All-Star game. Scouts think his potential contact and ability to avoid striking out is off the charts and say he's extremely intelligent.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Up top we talked about California and Seattle being rivals but it should have been 'hated' rivals. This week was no exception as in the bottom of the 3rd Tony Ramos allowed a two run home run to Hideki Nakayama and was pulled for reliever Ian Rudlaff. After two pitches to Hiroya Murata he decided that was enough to throw off suspicion and he beaned him right in the back. Murata charged the mound and the fight was on. When the dust finally settled Murata was suspended four games and Rudlaff was suspended eight games. Only nine games left between these two this year.
2. Ruben Cordova made it 28 games under new management before he was given his walking papers. Apparently a 11-17 record wasn't good enough for the former relief pitcher who played for the Freedom from 2010 to 2014 before becoming a manager in 2021 for the Cheyenne Wranglers. The Road Runners tapped 59 year old Dave Young to take over who last was in the BLB as hitting coach for the LA Dino's from 2032-2034. So far he's 1-3.
3. The DK's new crush after 'Two Ton' has been Seth Blankenship and he is finally on pace for a 40/40 year after hitting three home runs and swiping two bases this week. Wait, what's this? He's actually on pace for almost a 50/50 season! We know it probably won't last but apparently he's fed up about the DK talking about Marco Taylor going 1.3 in 2031, one pick after Blankenship.
4. Pawtucket has now lost 15 in a row, are 4-27 on the season, but somehow are still being projected to win an average of 48.8 games this season. Can they go on a losing streak and break the Wildfire's 1981 record of 39 wins? We think so.
5. Not to be outdone by the Patriot's streak is BC's starter Bernie Gonzalez who is on a 17 game losing streak. The poor guy is 0-4 this year with a 5.76 ERA after going 1-13 with a 7.36 ERA last season. Yes that is right, he started out 2035 with a win...felt great...asked his girlfriend to marry him...then lost 13 straight to close out the year. He's scheduled to start May 14th at home against Philly and sources say the 28 year old is already thinking of hanging it up if the streak continues. No word on if he is still engaged.
