Everyone played seven games this year and Hartford continues their hot streak with a 6-1 week. They are now 21-9 since August 1st, the best record in the league over that time. Other big weeks were Syracuse (who took over the league lead in wins and PR top spot), Miami, California, Pittsburgh and Baltimore who all went 5-2. Denver and Windy City meanwhile both went 1-6 as the Blues now hold onto the last wildcard spot in the IL by only one game. Some stat leaders for the week: Hartford scored 52 runs, Washington and Hartford had 14 home runs, Syracuse swiped 11 bases, Baltimore allowed 12 runs, and California struck out 54 batters.

Performance of the Week
1B Pat 'Melody' Nunes - Nunes recently switched over to first base and on August 30th against Philly he recorded three hits, two home runs, five RBI's and scored three times in an 11-0 victory. They ended up taking three of four in a big series against the Freedom. On the year 'Melody' is humming along to the tune of .284/.338/.492 with 20 HR's and 62 RBI's in 102 games. Scouts think he still can get better but at 26 his work ethic is known around the league as "lacking" and we can only guess at the superstar he might have become.
Injury of the Week
2B Edwin Meck - The 24 year old Snappers starting second basemen went down on August 30th throwing a simple ground out to first in the 4th inning. It turned out he was diagnosed with a strained oblique and will be out for 6-7 weeks. A huge blow for Syracuse as he's hitting .292/.346/.539 with 23 HR's, 77 RBI's and a139 wRC+ while starting 117 games at second.
Prospect of the Week
1B Bryce Wallace - The Week 5 DK PofW isn't on the top prospect list but his repeat performance is due to his phenomenal year. The 20 year old that was drafted in 2032 with the 34th overall pick is now in his fourth season with the Bluegills and led the entire RL in home runs and RBI's, was named to the All-Star team, and just won the Rookie Cup while being named the Rookie Cup MVP!
Five Things We Think We Think
1. As just mentioned congrats to the Boise Bluegills for the winning the 2035 Rookie Cup. After falling in the championship last season to the Rochester Monarchs they defeated the Mobile Minotaurs two games to one to secure their first ever championship. Meanwhile the AAA, AA and A playoffs are all in the championship round best of five. In AAA Vancouver leads Moscow 2-1, in AA San Francisco and Fort Lee are tied at 2, while in A Janeville leads Hondo 2-1.
2. In July Whalers DH Ron Hutchison hit .306/.355/.704 with 11 HR's and 32 RBI's and Hartford went 17-8. So what does he do in August? How about hitting .364/.355/.704 with 16 HR's and 33 RBI's. The Whalers went 20-8. He won the 2031 and 2033 DL Stout Slugger so maybe he's an every other year type of guy.
3. Robby Brooksher came back strong after missing two weeks when he hit a deer on the LA freeway. For those that thought the DK was making a joke just check out the injury log published by each team. This past week he hit .357/.400/.857 with 4 HR's and 14 RBI's. He now has double digit home runs in 12 straight seasons and is a lifetime .295/.355/.498 hitter with 1978 hits, 1004 RBI's, 1064 runs and a 69.7 WAR.
4. Batavia hasn't been able to get over the hump after their horrid start as they currently sit at 65-65. Part of the reason is $34,000,000 man Joy-shan Guo. He's only starting vs LHP and he's hitting .220/.279/.448 with 12 HR's and 30 RBI's on the year. He can opt out after this season but if he stays Batavia has the option of paying him $36,000,000 or buying him out for $4 million. We think if he stays he'll be getting an early Christmas present of cash.
5. Some great late season match-ups are coming up this week. Washington travels to California for four games, Seattle travels to California for three games, Santo Domingo travels to Indy for three games, and Syracuse travels to Hartford for three games.
