And we're off...some teams a little faster than others. The speediest of them all happens to be the Clowns from Wilmington. With sweeps of of Pawtucket and Syracuse they started out 6-0 and scored an amazing 63 runs during the week, 23 more than the next closest team. Their upcoming opponents can only be thinking "here comes trouble!" Other top weeks belonged to Indy, New York, California, and Toronto...yes Toronto...who all went 5-1. On the other end of the bell curve was Montreal and Batavia..yes Batavia...who all went 0-6. Don't worry though Red Jackets fans you still have 156 games to go and the tide will turn. Montreal fans we aren't too sure about your tide turning but it's the BLB, anything can happen!

Performance of the Week
3B J.J. Giorgi - Last year in Wilmington he hit .210 with 3 HR's and 12 RBI's. This season on April 14th he recorded four hits, two home runs, and six RBI's in a 19-5 Clowns victory. Has the former 2028 1st round pick finally broken through?
Injury of the Week
2B Ian Melnik - The 2034 Designated Driver at second base was beaned on Opening Day by Sandy Perez in the 6th inning and suffered a broken finger. An early diagnosis has shown him to be out at least six weeks.
Prospect of the Week
CF Sean Sayers - The 17 year old center fielder has hit .400/.495/.765 with 8 HR's and 27 RBI's in 19 games this season. He was recently selected to his third straight HS all-star game and his coaches rave about his work ethic and loyalty to the game.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Congrats to RJ Kapper who on opening day set the BLB record for consecutive games with a hit. Breaking the five way tie of 35 he singled off of Hartford's Ian Ammons in the top of the first and received a standing ovation from the Whaler crowd. He then recorded three hits the following day to push his streak to 37 before failing to record a hit in only two at bats on April 11th. He picked right back up though and had seven hits over the next three games to finish off the week.
2. Short stop Johnny Montgomery of Wilmington had quite the week. Last season he hit .234/.276/.304 with 2 HR's and 14 RBI's in 78 games. This season in five games he's hitting .500/.478/.727 with 1 HR and 14 RBI's. He's currently on pace for 378 RBI's but we're not sure that he'll get quite there.
3. California's big off-season has translated to regular season success so far. After going 5-1 they have a 97.2% chance of making the playoffs. So far they have tweeted that fact out 14 times (and counting) as of this publication. Swope hit .421 with 1 HR and Wright hit .438 with 2 HR's and the city of San Jose is partying like it's 1987 when they last won the Brewmasters Cup.
4. Seth Blankenship of Syracuse hit two home runs and stole three bases and is on pace for the 50/50 club. The watch for the first 40/40 member is on. Somewhere Turell 'Two Ton' Morris is jealous of all Seth's attention.
5. The NCAA, CCBL, and HS are a few weeks into their season, all three minor leagues kicked off this week and the Rookie League starts up May 1st. Baseball is back in full swing and we are loving it.
