  • The 2034 Daily Keg - The Brewski's

    (AP)

The 2034 season is over and congratulations are in order for the Indianapolis Racers. For the second time in a decade the Racers take home the Brewmasters Cup after defeating the Seattle Pilots in the finale. The Racers went 89-73 on the season and came into the playoffs as the 3rd wildcard in the Domestic. They swept the Maine Guides 3-0 in the wildcard, came back from down 3-1 to beat Santo Domingo in the DS, won a game seven to beat Hartford in the LCS, and then won games six and game seven against Seattle to take home the cup. When you win three straight game sevens and take home the BC it makes for a very special season indeed.

    The Brewski's

The Daily Keg is excited to announce the 5th annual Brewski Awards show. After pouring over the season the selection committee has announced the the winners for the following awards, some serious...some not so serious. So without further delay here we go.

    Player of the Year

1B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, SEA - Sporting new duds after signing with California this last week, Swope hauls in his third Brewski in only five years of its existence. 'Big Stick' was the heart and soul of the Pilots and won his fourth Stout Slugger in five years after hitting .333/398/.656 with 41 HR's and 100 RBI's. The 32 year old had played all 11 seasons with Seattle and has been to the Brewmasters five times, winning the 2026 title and being named the MVP of that series.

2030 winner: 3B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, SEA
2031 winner: 1B Turell 'Two Ton' Morris, MAI
2032 winner: 3B Johnny 'Big Stick' Swope, SEA
2033 winner: C Ian James, SDR

    Hitter of the Year

LF Fred Falloon, IND - He cranked 15 home runs in 2032, 25 last season, and 35 this year to go along with 103 RBI's while hitting .333/.397/.618. The 1st pick of the 2nd round in the 2030 draft is only 25 years old and will be a force to be reckoned with for years to come.

2030 winner: 1B Turell 'Two Ton' Morris, MAI
2031 winner: RF Ron 'Vampire' Hutchison, HAR
2032 winner: 1B Jermaine Williams, IND
2033 winner: 1B Manny Quezada, PHO

    Pitcher of the Year

P J.J. Plumley, WIL - At only 27 years and armed with a 101 mph fastball he almost single handily led the Clowns to the playoffs by going 10-0 down the stretch. He finished the year 15-6 with a 3.09 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 7.4 WAR. His 241 strikeouts were 27 more than second place and he's just entering his prime. He's also due to be a free agent after this season unless Wilmington digs deep and forks out some serious cash.

    2030 winner: Manabu Hamada, DEN
    2031 winner: Manabu Hamada, DEN
    2032 winner: Noel Graham, MAI
2033 winner: Pat 'Baja' Arballo, WAS

    Rookie of the Year

CF Rory Elia, CAR - He was only 20 years old for the majority of the season but that didn't phase Elia as he hit .258/.324/.584 with 48 HR's and 110 RBI's while posting a +6.5 ZR in center field. He was the 8th overall pick of the 2031 draft and should anchor a young Carolina lineup that will be dangerous for years to come.

2030 winner: 1B Pat Walton, HAR
2031 winner: 2B Alex Arana, SDR
2032 winner: 1B Dave Perry, PIT
2033 winner: 2B Tom Martin, NYK
    __________________________________________________ __

    All-State Hands Award
(Given to the player with the most total chances and no errors...who doesn't play primarily first base)

RF Donnie Wilson, MON - Playing center field for the Exports he recorded 473 total chances without an error. After being presented with his Brewski he thanked the Montreal pitching staff for letting the opposition hit so many balls towards him.

2030 winner: RF Dusty Janson, DEN
2031 winner: LF Jamie Hendon, NY
2032 winner: CF Gil Banda, SEA
2033 winner: CF Tom White, SDR

    Army Ranger Sniper Award
(Given to the catcher with the highest runner thrown out percentage with a minimum of 30 attempts)

C Dusty Akkerman, PAW - During the year 85 runners attempted to steal a base with Akkerman behind the plate and he threw out 29 of them for a RTO % of 34.1, one of only two catchers with a RTO percentage higher than thirty.

2030 winner: C Micah Gordon, WIL
2031 winner: C Ian 'Pickles' James, SDR
2032 winner: C Landon McClelland, PHI
2033 winner: C Tristan Logan, SEA

    Frank Abagnale, Jr Award
    (
Given to the player who stole at least 20 bases and was caught the least)

RF R.J. Kapper, PIT - Winning his third straight Brewski he swiped 32 bases while only being thrown out twice and in his last three years he's 91 out of 96. He doesn't have the best speed by far but his instincts are second to none.

2030 winner: CF Pat Welch, BAT
2031 winner: LF Akiyuki Kimura, MAI
2032 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT
2033 winner: RF R.J. Kapper, PIT

    Ludacris Award
    (
Given to the player who got hit with the most pitches)

LF Benny Tatsuno, PIT - He was beaned 18 times this year, two more than second place, and most figured it was due to him looking like a cross between a robot and a zombie.

2030 winner: 1B Geoff 'Mr. Reliable' Dail, MIA
2031 winner: 2B Dave 'Bulldog' Bickford, NY
2032 winner: 2B Tristan Hagen, HAR
    2033 winner: 1B Joy-shan Guo, BAT

    Broadside of the Barn Award
(Given to the player with the highest strikeouts per plate appearance)

1B Dave Schaefer, NYK - Scouts say he often shows a lack of effort, leadership, and loyalty which really aren't the qualities anyone wants to be associated with. He also apparently shows a lack of patience as he struck out 29.6% of the time. In only his second year in the BLB though he did raise his OBP to .335 while hitting 25 HR's and driving in 66. If he keeps on improving he should stay out of this award column in the future and hopefully wipe the scowl off his face.

2030 winner: LF Sayid bin Sariyah, LAD
2031 winner: C Sean Gallion, SYR
2032 winner: 1B Tom Lewis, MAI
2033 winner: C Jaime 'Dodo' Bushnell, CAR

Swing For Between the Infielders Award
(Given to the player with the most hits but no home runs)

C Tony Solorio, HAR - In 482 at bats he racked up 131 hits by ways of 90 singles, 40 doubles, one triple...and 0 home runs. Last season he also didn't hit one out but he did crank two in 2032 and one before that in 2030. So far in 2895 at bats since 2027 he has a grand total of four.

2030 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN
2031 winner: 2B Ricky 'Heartthrob' Figueroa, DEN
2032 winner: 3B Ron Morgan, SDR
2033 winner: RF Tom Lyon, PHO

    Dickey's BBQ Beans Award
(Given to the pitcher who hits the most batters)

P Robby 'Bruiser' McEvoy, BAL - Living up to his nickname he beaned 17 players this season, two more than the competition. He also won 19 games, tied for second most in the league, with a 4.05 ERA so maybe he's onto something. Next season he's vowed to get to 20...in both categories.

2030 winner: P Nate Bettis, PHO
2031 winner: P Pat Burgess, PIT
2032 winner: P Robby 'Bruiser' McEvoy, BAL
2033 winner: P Jarrod Peacock, PHI

    The Milton Swingline Stapler Award
(The player who earned a check without deserving one)

1B Dylan Owens, TOR - The Canadians take back the crown from Cali with Owens making his second appearance in the winners circle. Making $29,000,000 last season and posting a -0.5 WAR in 158 games is a sad testament for this seven time All-Star and future Hall of Famer. He did hit 27 HR's while driving in 95 runs but his -10.0 at first base hurt his value. He's on the books for $27,000,000 this upcoming season but signed an extension for 2036 worth only $868,000. I guess when you've made almost $400 million over a career it's not about money anymore.

2030 winner: P Jerrod Blick, TOR
2031 winner: P Jerrod Blick, TOR
2032 winner: 1B Dylan Owens, TOR
2033 winner: 3B Erik Redding, CAL
