  • The 2034 Daily Keg - Week 7

    August 22, 2033

    (AP)

Seattle climbs to the top spot after a 6-0 week. Miami, not far behind, went 5-1 to claim the second spot. It's still very early in the season, but it feels like the distance between contenders and rebuilders is already growing. Only six teams in the DL have a .500 record, with five teams already at 25+ losses. The IL is a bit more unclear, but only because of the strength in the Stout. The Bock has Seattle, and five other teams under .500, including five of the ten worst ranked teams in Power Rankings.

    Power Rankings

    1) Seattle Pilots (134.0, ++)
    2) Miami Sharks (129.0, +)
    3) Pittsburgh Millers (125.0, -)
    4) Washington Bats (121.6, o)
    5) Baltimore Bulldogs (114.0, --)
    6) Philadelphia Freedom (113.0, o)
    7) Carolina Tobs (105.3, +)
    8) Hartford Whalers (103.2, o)
    9) Wilmington Clowns (101.0, +)
    10) Indianapolis Racers (98.3, --)
    11) New York Knights (93.1, +)
    12) Santo Domingo Rum Runners (93.1, -)
    13) Batavia Red Jackets (87.0, o)
    14) Syracuse Snappers (84.7, ++)
    15) Phoenix Roadrunners (80.9, o)
    16) Windy City Blues (80.7, -)
    17) Maine Guides (74.8, -)
    18) Toronto Canadians (74.6, +)
    19) Pawtucket Patriots (68.5, -)
    20) California Kodiaks (63.0, -)
    21) New Orleans Dukes (62.5, o)
    22) Los Angeles Dinos (54.4, o)
    23) Montreal Exports (54.0, +)
    24) Denver BC (47.0, -)

    Performance of the Week

RF R.J. Kapper - He showed off his speed, his power and his plate discipline today at Rocky Top Park, putting together all facets of his game to hit for the cycle in the Pittsburgh win. After the game, Kapper stayed on the field to sign autographs for the traveling group of female fans who seem to attend every road Millers game. In Denver this week, there was one girl with a sign that said, "Hey Kapper, stick it in my gapper!" The 27-year-old is known around the league as the BLB's most eligible bachelor but somehow, finds a way to stay humble. "Seriously, I would have been happy going 1-for-5 with just the double," he said. "So this feels incredible."

    Injury of the Week

1B Colin Day - The 33-year-old broke his knee cap sliding into second on a run scoring double in a 7-5 win over New Orleans. "Ratchet" Day isn't the player he used to be but was on pace for 150 starts for the Blues and without an extension, some wonder if this is the end for Colin. He lead the BLB in PA four times, ABs four times, hits twice and stolen bases once.

    Prospect of the Week

3B Finn Reed - The former 6th round pick of Batavia has spent parts of three seasons down in Rookie Ball and could be turning a corner. He had five hits against some other players you have never heard of. This is probably the kids only chance to be mentioned in just about anything, so here's to you, Finn Reed.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Matt and Brad are severely under appreciated by the BLB. I've written a lot of news stories and articles for the BLB over the years but never with the level of consistency we have seen recently from Matt and the DK. Additionally, the fact that we almost NEVER have a missed sim by these two, is actually quite astonishing. Thanks, to both of you.

    2. The Stout is too good. If the Season ended today, the Stout would send FIVE teams to the playoffs, with the 6th place team, Batavia, finishing one game back. The bottom five teams in the IL are all in the Bock. If Batavia (22-23), was in the DL, they would be 4th in either division. I know we had a rule discussion thread about this but I really think we should consider some reshuffling.

    3. The best kept secret in the Import League is the Carolina Tobs. They sit at 25-19 and have one of the youngest rosters in the entire BLB. The oldest player is 31, 2B Pat Pierce, and they only have four other players 29 or older.

    4. The best kept secret in the Domestic League is the Wilmington Clowns. The Clowns are back baby! They only won 66 games last year, currently sitting at 25-20. The could hold onto a wild card spot and if they do, anything is possible with SP JJ Plumley. The 26-year-old reliever turned ACE is currently 4-2 with a 1.76 ERA and .88 WHIP, and he leads the BLB in K/9 at 12.2.

    5. I'm just filling in for Matt. If anyone else wants to do one of these next week, feel free, if Matt is still busy.

I thought the 2008 Denver squad was the epitome of power and speed. But it pales in comparison to that 2026 New York team. Wow.

Haha. Well done. The DK staff has been extremely busy lately and wasn't really sure people were reading it much anymore. We'll try and hire all the fired SI writers and get back on track.

I know a couple of us definitely read it. But if you're wondering if everyone reads it, you're probably right to think no.
