With the short All-Star week the Millers stay on top after going 3-0 with a sweep of Montreal. Other teams that got sweeps this week: Washington, Maine, Baltimore, Batavia, Seattle, Hartford, and Indy! Looks like the BLB should have bought stock in brooms.

Performance of the Week
P Dave Short - On July 24th against New Orleans the 30 year old went 8.2 innings and was one out away from a complete game before being pulled by his manager. TJ Hamill came in, threw one pitch which resulted in a ground out, and got the save. Short finished with three K's, no walks, and only gave up two hits. On the year he's 9-6 with a 3.61 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and ERA+ of 112.
Injury of the Week
P Samuel Norris - With the arrival of Hoon Park via trade the Patriot fans were excited to see how the rotation would pan out. On July 24th though the oft-injured Norris left the game after two innings with a stiff back and will be out for several weeks. Since 2030 he's been dinged up eighteen times, but he usually toughs it out as he's only been declared out twice for a total of a month. On the season he's 4-4 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 18 starts.
Prospect of the Week
CF Rory Elia - The 8th overall pick of the 2031 draft is 19 years old and tearing up A ball for Carolina. In 85 games he's hitting .302/.416/.601 with 22 HR's and 74 RBI's while posting a 5.2 WAR. He's also played all 85 games in centerfield where he has a +4.5 ZR.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. The All-Star game came down to the 9th when Joey Pearson from Syracuse hit a sacrifice fly that allowed the Dukes Matt Weir to tag up from third and break a 2-2 tie. The IL had runners on the 1st and 2nd with two outs in the bottom of the 9th but Dave Grubel hit into a fielders choice and ended the game. Weir ended up being the MVP as he was 3-4 with a double, RBI, run, and walk. Miami led all teams with five All-Star selections while Pittsburgh, Hartford, Philly, New York, and Seattle all had four each.
2. Well we just started the 2nd half of the season and it didn't take long for a division lead change. After winning four in a row the Seattle Pilots are now in charge of the Bock as they lead Windy City by 1.5 games. These teams have already played 12 times with the Blues holding a 9-3 lead and will meet six more times before the season is over, so don't get too despondent yet Windy City fans.
3. With LAD trading away Hoon Park and Dusty Akkerman they have appeared to wave the white flag for the year. That means that the IL wildcard will basically be six teams. Currently it's Philly, Windy City, Washington, and New York with Batavia a half game back and Phoenix three and a half back. In the DL you have Santo Domingo, Hartford, and Pawtucket then Indy and Maine tied for the 4th spot with Syracuse only two and a half back.
4. Ron Hutchinson has gone beast mode this month. In 19 games he's hit 10 home runs and drove in 29 runs. In the last three since the All-Star break he hit one home run in every game and drove in 10 runs. He now has 38 home runs and 95 RBI's on the season and is on pace for 63/159. At 25 years old he has a nine home run lead in the DL over Turell Morris and a seven home run lead overall in the BLB over Baltimore's Dusty Janson. He leads the league in SLG, ISO, OPS, OPS+ and is second in batting WAR.
5. Dave Theisen is coming back just in time for Washington to make a serious wild card run. In two rehab starts in AAA he's thrown 8.1 innings, allowed one earned run, struck out nine and walked five. His 5.4 BB/9 rate is almost double of what the organization is used to and scouts believe he is having some control issues after missing so much time the last two seasons, but we won't pass judgement quite yet on such a small sample size. At 26 years old he still throws over 100 mph and has five pitches that can confound even the best hitters.
