  • The 2032 Daily Keg - Week 9

    (AP)

    Somebody break up the Kodiaks! They went 6-0 this week to shoot up the rankings to #2, their highest position since 2023. They are currently 13 games above .500 and only 3.5 games back from powerhouse Seattle in the Bock. Speaking of the Pilots they went 6-0 as well and continue their stranglehold on the league. Other big weeks belong to Philly and Syracuse who each went 5-1 while three other teams went 4-2. On the other side of life Batavia, Phoenix, and New Orleans all went 1-5. Some team stat leaders for the week: California hit 13 home runs and stole 15 bases (who are these guys?), Syracuse had a 1.50 ERA, Seattle struck out 56, and Indy had four triples.

    Power Rankings

    1) Seattle Pilots (136.1, o)
    2) California Kodiaks (124.3, ++)
    3) Syracuse Snappers (108.6, ++)

    8) Santo Domingo Rum Runners (101.9, -)
    9) New York Knights (101.6, --)
    10) Hartford Whalers (100.9, +)

    Performance of the Week

    P Ivan Sepulveda - On June 2nd against Denver he went the entire way and allowed only three hits and one run in a 4-1 victory. On the year the 34 year old Sepulveda is 5-3 with a 3.22 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 1.1 WAR. If he and Jarrod Peacock keep it going the Freedom aren't out of the playoff picture quite yet.

    Injury of the Week

    P Roman 'Thumper' Vanderhoef - After coming in during the 6th inning against Maine he made it to the start of the 8th before having to come out with shoulder pain after warming up. The former 1st round pick in 2023 was diagnosed with shoulder tendinitis and will be out for a month. In a career marred by injuries he last injured this shoulder in 2029 when he tore his labrum but management was thankful it was not that serious this time. On the season he is 3-1 with a 3.48 ERA in 11 games.

    Prospect of the Week

    P Sheldon 'Weasel' Martin - The 3rd pick in the 2030 draft by the Carolina Tobs started the season off in AA ball and is currently 5-2 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. He throws four pitches, including a 100 mph fastball and is currently the #7 prospect in the league. At 22 years old he will probably be in AAA by the end of the season at this rate and could even see a September call-up.

    Five Things We Think We Think

    1. In a strange sighting this week Montreal trotted out backup catcher Jamie Allie out to third base for all six games. Many say he has the best arm in the game behind the plate so we can only assume they were trying to translate that arm strength out into the infield. He ended up getting 16 total chances and made 1 error, and he ended up with a range of 2.50 and a ZR of -0.1. Bob Blanche is their natural third basemen who has played short stop for 49 games so far this season but currently leads the entire league with 12 errors.

    2. Speaking of errors the player with the most total chances and no errors is Seattle's Nehemiah Daniel. While playing both second and short he's had 200 TC's and 0 errors. What's ironic is that his best position per the scouts is third. He also happens to be hitting .303/.364/.516 with 9 HR's and 27 RBI's.

    3. Both the Domestic and Import are showing signs that it could be a fun year come pennant race time. In the DL Miami, Pittsburgh, Maine, Indy, Santo Domingo, Syracuse, and Hartford all range between 34 and 31 wins and top to bottom are 2.5 games apart. Meanwhile in the IL nine out of the ten current wildcard teams are only separated by four games. This could be a buyers market.

    4. Poor Pat Feeny, who currently resides in Baltimore's AAA club, as he currently holds the BLB loss streak record of 13 straight games. He went 2-16 with a 5.87 ERA in Syracuse during 2030 and started 2031 by going 0-5 with a 7.71 ERA before being sent down to the minors. He was then involved in a multi-player deal with Baltimore and pitched in three games but didn't get a decision. This season he pitched in one game, allowed one run, and was sent back down to the minors. He can always look back on the mid 2020's though when in 2025 he recorded 26 saves with Carolina and then in '26-'28 won 11, 10 and 11 games respectively.

    5. We're all about the Kodiak train! We even picked up a poster that they've been selling at In-N-Out Field.

      Always love the DK Matt! This issue has proved to be my favourite though! I’m not sure how much longer the old guy can play at his current level. The young kids seem to be keeping him pretty spry though. Well done good sir!
