The Bats go 5-2 to stay atop the PR but New York and New Orleans both go 6-1 to close the gap. The Dukes are now 16-3 in the month of July while the Knights are 14-5, and both of them are now in 2nd place in their respective divisions. California had a rough week going 0-6 but are still lead the race to #1, pick that is. Some player leaders this week: Brendan Matson (HAR) cracked four home runs, Johnny Swope (SEA) drove in 11, Pat Schick (NYK) and Dave Payette (WAS) were both 2-0 with 14 K's, and Geoff Dail (MIA) stole three bases.

Performance of the Week
P Erik Harrell - On July 18th against Phoenix he pitched a two hit shutout with seven strike outs and two walks as LAD won easily 5-0. The 28 year old Harrell was a 2nd round pick in 2023 by LAD who came out of the bullpen the last four seasons before finally getting a chance to start this year. He's 7-7 with a 3.88 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 2.1 WAR.
Injury of the Week
SS Micah Overturff - When the 'worst' injury we can find is a torn thumb ligament that is a good week for the doctors and trainers in the BLB. Overturff got hurt on July 14th against Batavia during a hard slide at second by Pat Bingham during a fielders choice in the bottom of the 3rd. This was only his 37th game for Philly this year but he is hitting .280/.368/.463 with a 1.1 WAR and positive ZR at second, short, and third for the Freedom.
Prospect of the Week
RF Bailey Handy - On July 10th the Kingston Indians had 'Handy' night and he delivered to the tune of two HR's and four RBI's in a 4-1 victory. Drafted with the 11th overall pick of 2030 out of North Carolina he spent most of his time in the Rookie League last season before getting called to to A ball. So far this year in 87 games he's hitting .320 with 16 HR's and 72 RBI's. At 21 years old look for him to be in AA or even AAA ball by next year.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Last week it was Jamie O'Hearn breaking the all-time home run record and this week he hit two more, giving him 575 now. Also this week Dave 'Tapper' Ingram hit his 400th career home run, making him the 26th player in BLB history to get to that point. Among active leaders his is #5 behind O'Hearn, Tom Lewis, Marques Edwards, and Dylan Owens. Drafted with the 2nd overall pick of the 2016 draft he played his entire career in Toronto before coming over to Pawtucket last season via trade. At 35 years old he's hitting .288 with 23 HR's and a 2.1 WAR.
2. It looks like Manny Quezada is coming into his own. The 25 year old was a 5th round pick in 2026 out of Oregon State and is growing into one of the best hitters in the league. He struggled to start the year but in the month of July he's hitting .400 with 6 HR's and 15 RBI's and was selected to his first BLB All-Star game. After hitting .253 and .259 over the last two seasons the Phoenix management has to be fired up at his progress.
3. Speaking of hitters for the first time in what seems like two seasons Turrell 'Two Ton' Morris is not leading the league in home runs. He currently has 32 but is tied with Ron 'Vampire' Hutchison who has hit 17 during June and July while Two Ton has hit only nine.
4. Washington is the only division leader with a negative zone rating as their team comes in at -18.1. Hartford is +4.9, Montreal is +9.5, and Denver is +5.1. Overall as a league though the BLB is at -110.3.
5. The 2031 All-Star rosters have been announced. Hats off to these players as they will play in the upcoming game featured this Tuesday, July 22nd.
