  • The 2031 Daily Keg - Week 8

    (AP)

For the 3rd week in a row the Bats stay #1 in the PR. They went 5-1 this past week and finished May with a 22-6 record. With 37 wins they have one more than Hartford( who also went 22-6 in May) for the league lead and are ranked 1st in the Import in almost every meaningful pitching and hitting category. Speaking of Hartford they went 5-1 along with Philly, Seattle, Maine, and New Orleans. On the flip side Baltimore and Indy both went 0-6. The Bulldogs are now last in the Stout after going 9-19 over the month of May. Some team stat leaders of the week: Montreal with a .329 average, Pittsburgh with a 8.35 ERA, Seattle with a 2.00 ERA, and Phoenix and Denver with eight stolen bases.

    Performance of the Week

RF Zachary Schumacher - On May 31st against Syracuse the 24 year old had four hits, three home runs, four RBI's, and scored four times himself in a 7-2 victory. On the year he's hitting .331 with 12 HR's, 35 RBI's and a projected 6.0 WAR. The last two times someone hit 3 home runs in a game it was the same player, Zachary Bradley for Philadelphia, who did it April 30th this season and in August last year.

    Injury of the Week

P Dave 'Zoom Zoom' Boyd - In his scouting report it says that Boyd "will rarely admit to injury...he wants to be on the field every day." On May 31st though Zoom Zoom made it 14 pitchers and one inning before admitting he was hurt and having to leave with shoulder pain. An MRI showed a partially torn labrum and he'll be out for several months. The 37 year old was signed to a one year deal before this season and this is his 6th and possibly last BLB team.

    Prospect of the Week

P Sonny Oates - The 20 year old freshman for Oklahoma State has scouts excited over his control and leadership. In 24 innings this season he's posted a 4.74 ERA and struck out 29.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The Pittsburgh Millers hit a whopping 19 home runs this week, five more than Hartford who came in second. Unfortunately they gave up 17 home runs, three more than Montreal who came in second. In one game against Montreal they allowed back to back to back home runs by Jamie Bisbee, Riley Thomas, and JD Fazlic. Pittsburgh manager Gene Legere might end up on the DL with a strained neck after watching moonshot after moonshot fly into the stands.

    2. Our runner-up for performance of the week is Pat Goldsmith of the Seattle Pilots. The 40 year old making $19 million came into his May 31st start against Batavia with a 4-5 record, a 7.44 ERA and was a disappointment for the Pilots to say the least. So what does he do...he throws a no-hitter! Over the nine innings he gave up only one walk and struck out two and now is 5-5 with a 6.40 ERA on the year.

    3. Jarrod Richards (.268/.370/.456) of the Red Jackets leads the BLB with 4.71 pitches per plate appearance with the qualifier of 3.1 plate appearances per team game. On the other end of the rainbow is Santo Domingo's Ron Morgan (.253/.267/.327) who is averaging 2.90. Morgon though does have a 10.2 strikeout percentage while Richards is at 22 percent.

    4. Tom Lambert for Maine is now 8-0 on the season with a 2.07 ERA. He has won nine straight and his quality start percentage this season is at 90%. Manuba Hamada though is 7-0 with a 2.66 ERA, won 13 in a row, and his quality start percentage is 100%. Lambert is making $2.75 million this season, Hamada is making $23 million.

    5. All-Star voting has begun. Currently the IL lead is Zachary Bradley of Philadelphia while Ian James of Santo Domingo leads the DL. This year the teams will be represented by new jerseys and both leagues just had new logos debut in time for the game.
