Maine 'Two Ton' Guides go 4-2 but stay atop the power rankings as only Miami, Baltimore, and Hartford have better records at 5-2. The Whalers led the league with a 2.81 ERA this week while Phoenix hit .341 and scored 59 runs but only managed to go 4-3.

Performance of the Week
C R.J. Blewett - On September 5th RJ exploded for four hits, two home runs, and eight runs batted in during a 16-2 rout of Windy City. His grand slam in the 2nd was part of a six run inning that demoralized the Blues and put Phoenix up 8-1. On the season he's hitting .301 with 16 HR's and 46 RBI's.
Injury of the Week
CF Gil Banda - With California nipping at their heels the Bulldogs will be without their starting centerfielder for a few weeks after he went down on September 5th against Philly. On the season Banda is hitting .306 with 8 HR's and 51 HR's but his +8.2 ZR over 121 games in center has been the glue that has held the Baltimore outfield together.
Prospect of the Week
2B Edwin Meck - The 19 year old from Riviera Beach, Maryland hit .376 with 13 HR's and 47 RBI's in his 1st season with the Cardinals. He was the Regionals and Sweet 16 MVP and is one of the smartest players on one of the smartest teams in the nation. Scouts say he's "often found talking with coaches long after drills are over."
Five Things We Think We Think
1. TJ Dunn's record of 157 RBI's from 2009 has officially been broken by you guessed it...Turell 'Two Ton' Morris. He had tied the record on September 4th against New Orleans but went RBI-less the next two games. Yesterday though against Pawtucket he hit a 373 foot solo blast in the top of the 1st and even the Pawtucket fans gave him a standing ovation as the game was stopped. He now just has the runs record to break. He currently has 132, just 20 behind Mel Woodbury who set the record for the 1991 Virginia Colonels. It's just mind boggling what he has done.
2. Last week we had an error as we announced there were three IL teams (Denver, Baltimore, and California) fighting for one playoff spot. It's actually two playoff spots! Currently it looks like California will be the odd team out as they went 2-4 this past week with team 6.83 ERA. If they are looking for a scapegoat look no further than Cassius "Maniac' Whitcomb who got called up this week and was instantly thrown into the fire. In three games he allowed 15 earned runs in 5.1 IP and now has an ERA of 23.82. Kinda what you would expect for a 27 year old who has never pitched in the BLB prior to this week.
3. The DL wildcard is actually the place to be as three teams are actually fighting for just one spot. We checked and double checked and we're pretty sure we are correct on this one. Pittsburgh, Santo Domingo, and Montreal are all separated by 1 game for the 4th wildcard spot. Montreal has 15 games at home left, Pittsburgh has 14, and Santo Domingo has 9. Montreal also has the easiest remaining schedule as we predict the Exports will sneak in.
4. Maine and Seattle refuse to give an inch for home field advantage come a potential Brewmasters matchup. Both teams are 91-45 and don't appear to be resting anyone. Since August 1st they are both 25-11. Since July 1st Seattle is 40-21 and Maine is 39-22. Since June 1st Maine is 59-29 and Seattle is 59-30.
5. It's been interesting to watch some of the "old" guys pitch in their final contract year. Hoon Park (10-10, 3.41 ERA), Pat Goldsmith (8-12, 3.23 ERA), and Dave Teel (15-5, 2.79 ERA) are all soon to be free agents with Teel being the youngest at 36. Will they stay with their current team or test the free agent waters at the end of the season? Reports say that Teel and Goldsmith both want almost $30 million and will be more than likely be walking out their respective clubhouse doors when the last game is played.
