Maine goes 6-1 this week to move back atop the power rankings. Other 6-1 weeks belong to New Orleans, Batavia, and Hartford. The Whalers and Dukes are both in the midst of the DL wildcard battle and are both above .500 now. On the other side we had two o-fers this week as Montreal went 0-6 and Carolina went 0-7. The Tobs are on pace for the one of the worst seasons in BLB history, a far cry from their back to back 80+ win seasons a few years ago.

Performance of the Week
P Keon Conteh - The 26 year old had the 4th best pitching performance this season on August 8th against Syracuse. In a 6-0 victory he went the entire distance and only allowed one hit while striking out five. The lone hit was by Pat DiBona when he hit a double in the top of the 2nd. On the year Conteh is 6-9 with a 3.69 ERA. Giggity.
Injury of the Week
CF Dave Wagner - One of the bright young stars in the league went down hard chasing down a fly ball on August 9th against Hartford. In the bottom of the 2nd he dove to catch a Norm Cutshall blast but stayed down for several minutes. He was helped off the field and x-rays showed he had a broken kneecap and will be out until next season. On the year Wagner was hitting .299 with 11 HR's and 48 RBI's in 107 games.
Prospect of the Week
P Jerry Rodriguez - The 19 year old for the Yarmouth Dennis Red Sox of the CCBL finished 3rd this year in the Outstanding Pitcher Award. He was 2-3 with a 3.30 ERA and 71 K's in 12 game started. Scouts say he throws 90+mph and is "extremely self-confident. Unwavering, once he takes a position."
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Apparently a lot of players are reading the Daily Keg these days. Last week Jamie O'Hearn went off after we doubted he might reach the career home run record. This week Turell 'Two Ton' Morris absolutely went bonkers after we doubted he would break the single season home run and runs batted in records. He hit .500 with 8, yes 8 home runs, and 15 RBI's. He also stole two bases just to show he could. He's now hitting .339 with 49 HR's and 128 RBI's in 110 games. He's nine away from the HR record and 29 away from the RBI record...and it's August 12th. He's also on pace to break the single season runs record of 152 held by Hector Chavez in 1991.
2. It looks like the long career of Erik Parham might have come to an end. On August 10th against Miami he came in during the 7th inning. He then went single, single, single (reached on error) and double and was promptly pulled. Fans didn't realize it at the time but on the last pitch he hurt his shoulder and asked to come out. A MRI showed he had torn his rotator cuff. In Parham's last three seasons he has suffered 16 day to day injuries and a torn UCL in August of 2028. Drafted by Batavia in the 1st round of the 2013 draft he has a career record of 134-84 with a 3.24 ERA.
3. Pat Peets is racking up the frequent flyer miles this season. Drafted by Montreal in 2026 he has played sparingly for the Exports and even got a ring for the 2027 title. This season he was claimed by Miami off waivers in May. He was then claimed by Washington from Miami in June. He was then claimed back by Miami in July. He was then released by Miami three weeks later. This past week he signed a contract with Washington.
4. In the DL Santo Domingo and Montreal are currently tied for the final wildcard spot with 53-58 records. Pittsburgh and Pawtucket are one game back and Indy is two back. Even Syracuse with a 46-65 record is only seven away. It could be a wild and fun ride come September. In the IL Baltimore is in the final spot and currently 5.5 games ahead of Windy City and 6.0 games ahead of Los Angeles. In the past two month though the Bulldogs are 11-24 and sinking fast. If they keep going at this rate we might have some excitement in the IL as well.
5. Maine and Wilmington kick off a big four game series this week. The Wildcats are nine games behind Maine for the Ale lead and this could be a make or break series. In the 11 games they have met so far Maine leads 6-5 with seven of the games being either 2 or 1 run games. Wilmington has done a good job of slowing down Morris who's only hitting .300 with 1 HR in those games. After last weeks performance they have to be more than a little worried though.
