    Performance of the Week

LF Johnny Gammon - The Miami Sharks outfielder smacked three home runs against Wilmington on July 26th. It is only the second 3 HR game this season in the BLB and earns him performance of the week. He drove in six runs and helped the Sharks take down the Wildcats 7-3. He's now hitting .316 with 17 HR's and 65 RBI's.

    Injury of the Week

1B Erik LaBruzzo - Unfortunately on the same day Gammon was hitting bomb after bomb the Sharks lost LaBruzzo for about a month due to a fractured thumb. In the 4th inning while on 1st he tried to go to 3rd on a single by Erik Ward and was thrown out. To add injury to insult when sliding in his thumb got caught on the base and he heard a pop. He was removed from the game and x-rays showed a clean break. On the year LaBruzzo is hitting .339 with 12 HR's and 42 RBI's and has a 2.1 WAR.

    Prospect of the Week

1B Drew Ansell - The 18 year old from Philly hasn't played a game yet but scouts are excited about Ansell turning into a future star. He was a leader in HS and has one of the "smoothest contact swings" in college according to one scout. Time will only tell what he amounts too.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. The All-Star break was a huge success this past week in Miami. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the 4th when a Ron Snider single scored Johnny Gammon for the DL. The next batter was Akiyuki Kamura who hit into a fielders choice allowing Pat Walton to score. The four runs was all the DL needed as Reutter (MIA), Plumley (WIL), Jensen (MON), Hurley (SDRR), and finally Miner (PIT) came in and didn't allow another run. Pat Walton was named the POTG which was only fitting after he out-dueled Turell Morris to win the Home Run Derby the night before.

    2. In any other season Ian James of the Rum Runners would be a Triple Crown candidate going in post All-Star break. He's 1st in average at .383 and 2nd in home runs and runs batted in. Unfortunately the 2nd is behind Turell Morris where he has absolutely no chance of catching 'Two Ton'. He's 16 home runs and 40 RBI's behind, which is just amazing considering he's in second and it isn't even August yet. In the IL Johnny Swope won his 3rd POTW award and is solidly ahead in his quest to win the Triple Crown. He's hitting .370 with 35 HR's and 91 RBI's, and is 14 HR's and 25 RBI's ahead of his closest competition. The only race he might be in will be against Mike Morla and his own teammate Jimmy Jeffs for batting average.

    3. Over in the IL we might as well just start the playoffs now with the six teams decided. Seattle, Washington, Philly, Baltimore, New York and Denver. The playoff odds show the rest of the teams with a less than 10% chance of making the postseason. In the DL it's a different beast as nine teams are still in the hunt.

    4. Now that almost 100 games are down the chase for records can get serious now. All though Jamie Rush's quest for .400 has been derailed by a .293 July we still have some exciting races to follow. Turell Morris is on pace to shatter the home run and RBI record and has a chance to break Mel Woodbury's run record of 152 set in 1991. Dave Fisher of Pawtucket still has a good shot at breaking the doubles record and Jimmy George of LAD has a shot at the saves record of 57 set by Marco Rosaro in 2023.

    5. Baltimore manged to steal six more bases this past week. They now have 127 on the season. Hartford has 17. The Whalers do have 115 home runs though compared to Baltimore's 90.

Rodriques could really hit, thuough not in Maine.

I remember Mast. He was a weird player. So much raw power. Still he was worth -0.3 WAR in his final 30 HR season.

I really thought the performance of the week was California prospect Danny Garcia. After spending time in A, AA, and AAA ball, he went three for three with a hoe run, a double, three runs scored, and two RBI!

He's not on the top prospect list, but things are looking up in California!

The DK doesn't count "hoe runs" as an official stat. That's a Cali thing.

What a weird time in the BLB.

Rodriquez at age 33. And an All-Star. Never played again

The Daily Keg is the best thing to happen to the BLB since Turrell Morris happened upon that Andro dealer in Spring Training!
