The Guides use a strong 5-1 week, including a sweep of Montreal, to move atop the power rankings. They finished June with a 20-7 record, the best in the league, and now have a nine game lead in the Ale. Also going 5-1 this week were LA, Philly, and Indy. On the flip side were Batavia, Pawtucket, Wilmington and Toronto who all went 1-5. Carolina took the prize for worst month though by going 6-21. Their 4.63 ERA was 9th from the bottom but they only scored 82 runs, lowest in the league.

Performance of the Week
P Ethan Rhodes - The 23 year old moved to 6-4 this year with a complete game one hitter of Pawtucket on June 29th. He struck out three and walked none and Indy easily won 5-0. The lone hit was a double in the 5th by Dave Finlay who tried to stretch it into a triple and was thrown out.
Injury of the Week
Enrique 'The Artist' Bernardi - The huge free agent signing by Denver this year had worked well so far. On the season 'The Artist' was 8-4 with a 3.68 ERA. On June 29th though against Baltimore he gave up a single to Jonathon Valenti in the 3rd and signaled the dugout that he was done. He was taken to the back where his left elbow was looked at. Sources say it swelled up like a grapefruit and he has been ruled out for several months. The organization is hoping surgery is not needed for their $152 million dollar man.
Prospect of the Week
RF Charles Farris - The 19 year old from Illinois finished 3rd in the NCAA Outstanding Hitter Award in his first season after batting .376 with 24 HR's in 49 games. Scouts say he fits in well and the ladies around town love his stache.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Turell 'Two Ton' Morris hit six home runs this past week. That's as many or more than 13 teams hit all together for the week, including Pawtucket who hit one. On June 29th his 404 foot walk off home run in the 14th against Montreal is just another chapter in his crazy season. He's now hitting .345 with 37 HR's and 100 RBI's and it's only July 1st. He's on pace to hit 80 HR's and drive in 216 runs. He's putting up video game numbers and we don't see him cooling off. It's uncharted territory we're in here folks.
2. Some month of June team stats. Miami lead the league with a 3.05 ERA. Maine hit the most home runs (49) and scored the most runs (178). Baltimore was a terror on the bases as they swiped 39 of them, the next closest was Montreal at 25.
3. Wilmington went 1-5 last week and Jaime Rush hit .250. He now needs to hit .409 the rest of the way to hit .400. It looks like the dream might be over. In Triple Crown news Johnny Swope is still 1st in all categories. His competition might be his own teammate in Jimmy Jeffs though who is 2nd behind him in average and RBI's. On the pitching side Dave Theisen is 2nd in all his categories while over in the DL Scooter Nackers is now 1st in ERA (2.67) and 2nd in wins (9) and K's (88). He's one off the tie for wins and eight off the tie for K's.
4. The three richest contracts currently active in the BLB are Dylan Owens ($247m), Jamie O'Hearn ($235m) and Mike Morla ($195m). Owens is projected to finish with a 0.8 WAR, O'Hearn is projected to finish with a 0.5 WAR, and Morla is hitting .353 with 16 HR's. Owens has six years left, O'Hearn has four, and Morla has an amazing eight...and he just turned 35 years old. Meanwhile Rory Smith for Washington is projected to finish with a 7.2 WAR and is making $280k.
5. With Rookie League and Single A rosters being cut down to 28 this upcoming week look for a lot of movement of youngsters around the league. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Every team out there right now is looking for the next Tom Driggs. For those that haven't heard Driggs was undrafted out of Clemson and signed by Denver before being released eight months later. He was signed by the Dallas/Miami organization and went on to post quite a remarkable career. He won 148 games and finished with a career 2.99 ERA. He also won three Brewmaster Cups, two with Miami and one with Indianapolis, and tossed two no-hitters.
