The Pilots hold onto the top spot despite big 5-1 weeks from Pittsburgh, Miami, Baltimore, and Denver. On the flip side Toronto and Carolina both went 0-6 while Pawtucket, Batavia, and Indy all went 1-5. Stat wise Toronto had quite a week as their team ERA was 7.18 while the Millers stay hot and hit .396 as a team. In the last 15 games Pittsburgh is 12-3 while the Canadians are 2-13.

    Performance of the Week

P Dave Theisen, WAS - This award almost went to Dusty Osteen of Batavia who posted the highest batting score of the year on June 4th when he hit two home runs and drove in four against California. Instead we decided to give it to the 23 year old pitcher for the Bats who on June 9th hammered the Carolina Tobs. In 8.1 innings he allowed one hit and struck out 16 batters! Washington's Dave Taylor hit a 357 home run on the 1st pitch of the game and that was basically all that was needed with Theisen on the mound.

    Injury of the Week

RF Zachary Schumacher, NO - In his 2nd full season in the BLB the young Schumacher is looking to ascend into the BLB elite category but just can't stay healthy. In March he broke his finger and was out for six weeks. Now on June 8th against SDRR he hurt his knee on a spectacular diving catch in the 4th to rob Jimmy DeVies of an extra base hit. After being helped off the field an MRI showed he has a torn meniscus in his left knee and will be out for several months. On the year Schumacher was hitting .320 with 3 HR's and 13 RBI's.

    Prospect of the Week

RF Amari Gibbs - Drafted by the LA Dino's with the 18th pick in the 1st round Gibbs had a monster 2019 season at Duke when he hit .433 with 17 HR's and 58 RBI's. His 2030 season was cut short by a herniated disk in his back in April. In the 17 games prior to the injury he was hitting .418 with 4 HR's and 17 RBI's. At only 20 years old if he gets healthy and stays healthy look out. Scouts love his intangibles and say he's "one of the first to volunteer for extra work before games or on off days."

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Turell 'Two Ton' Morris. With eight more home runs and 30 more RBI's than anyone else in the league who saw this coming? He has a slugging percentage of .716 and OPS of 1.140. What's even crazier is that when Ricky Murillo won the triple crown in 2012 his SLG was .753 and his OPS was 1.195. If the season ended now Two Ton would be 2nd all-time to Ricky in both those categories.

    2. On June 5th the Indianapolis Racers traveled to Maine to take on the Guides. The game was 4-4 at the end of the 9th and then Indy jumped all over Dave Harmony in the 10th. Jaime Brittingham crushed a two out pitch over the wall for a three run home run and all but insurmountable lead. After Josh Collins grounded out to lead off the bottom of the 10th, Indy's win percentage was calculated at 98%. Dave Seibert then walked. Akiyuki Kimura then hit a single. Turell Morris then walked. Dave Tibbs then hit a 340 walk off grand slam.

    3. Don't look but Jamie 'Grumpy' Hunter of Windy City has now hit safely in 33 straight games. The 23 year old is a great contact hitter and a very tough strikeout and is hitting .343 on the year. The all-time streak is 35 games and is a tie between four players, Angelo Barrios, Colin Day, Mike Morla, and Adam Nickell. He's also a burner on the bases. Last year Hunter was the youngest player to ever lead the league in steals when he swiped 62 bases at the ripe ol' age of 22.

    4. Since it's draft time we looked back on some of the best drafts we've ever seen. Our vote goes to the 2014 draft. 1st round selections: Dylan Owens, Erik Surmeier, Jamie O'Hearn, Dave Teel, CJ Baase, Erik Jackson, Johnny Knott, and Willie Salazar. 2nd round selections: TJ Elkind, Tom Pryor, Ron Osborn, Alejandro Portillo, Marques Edwards and Pat Vickers. Later round finds: Zack Fowler, Jarrold Rowles, Tom Lewis, Dave Gotschall, BJ Swisher, Dave Calvert, Pat Kaufman and Jimmy West. Fun fact, the highest WAR out of this draft is Tom Lewis at 80.3 who was taken 4.20 by Wilmington. The 10 time All-Star is currently plodding along in Maine's system at AAA making $7m and just begging for a chance to get back to the show.

    5. Jamie Rush got back in his groove last week when he hit .524 and raised his batting average to .416. He's no longer on pace to break the steals record and is projected at only one hit more than his own 2028 record for hits. Would either of those really matter though if he was the 1st batter in BLB history to hit over .400? He has to hit .391 the rest of the way to do it.
