Performance of the Week
SP Pat Conlee, DEN - On April 19th Conlee pitched the first no-hitter in the BLB since June 8 of 2028! Over the course of the game the 32 year old had 8 K's and 3 BB's as Denver won 4-0. In the 9th with the opposing fans on their feet Conlee got Dave Clancy to fly out to deep center, then struck out Harukazu Ikeda. Tate Dodd then marched up to the plate and after two foul balls Conlee got him to swing and miss on a fastball to start the celebration.
Prospect of the Week
1B Mat Washburn - In his 3rd season with the Hoover HS Pirates the 16 year old Washburn continues to be the slugger the scouts dream he can be in the BLB. He's not much in the field and is slower than molasses in December but his career high school OPS is 1.271 and his career high school SLG is .778.
Injury of the Week
SP Joey Kopp, NYK - We forgot this section last week so we'll do a throwback to Week 1 with our IOTW. Kopp was a big name addition who signed a 2 yr/$32m contract this offseason with the reigning champs and was expected to do big things. Instead in his 1st start of the season against the Freedom he ruptured a tendon in his finger after just two innings. Doctors believe he will be out for at least four months.
Five Things We Think We Think
1. Let's play two..almost. Last Monday the Sharks and the Guides played a doozy in Miami. Both teams were tied 2-2 in the 3rd and stayed that way until the bottom of the 17th inning when Maine pitcher Pat 'Doofus' Clatterback walked Jimmy Lewis with the bases loaded to end it.
2. Ron 'Vampire' Hutchinson of Hartford was named the #1 prospect and is now a full time BLB player. So far this year in 13 games he's hitting .145/.190/.145 with no HR's or RBI's. He has two walks and 13 K's. During one game an opposing player was holding up a mirror and garlic in the dugout as a joke...or was it?
3. TJ Preddy of New York's first week. Zero home runs and one RBI. TJ Preddy's second week...5 home runs and 11 RBI's.
4. Is it too early to start selling? Pawtuckets playoff odds are at 4.3%. Carolina is coming in at 1.5%. We know, we know...there's a lot of baseball left.
5. Record watch! Jamie O'Hearn his his 1st home run of the year. With 537 total and Alvarez sitting in the top spot with 572 we're probably looking at 2031 for the big day.
