  • The 2030 Daily Keg - Week 1

    (AP) -

And they are off. The race for the 2030 Brewmasters Cup has begun. Wilmington currently has the best record in the league at 4-1 while the Dino's come in last at 1-6. Not to fret though. With over 150 more games we hope that GM's aren't updating the trade block quite yet.

    Performance of the Week

SP Pang Shuai, SEA - In his first ever start in the BLB the $31,000,000 man proved his worth as he went 8 innings against Phoenix. He gave up three hits, no runs, struck out nine and walked one. With all eyes on 'Freeze' he started out his career right as he opened up against Manny Quezada and struck him out looking on a full count.

    Prospect of the Week

SP Seth 'Berserker' Rocco - The 20 year old is eligible for this years draft and looks to be possibly the top pick. Last season he went 4-3 with a 2.88 ERA and this year he's 2-0 with a 2.20 ERA. Scouts say "He's constantly studying reports on upcoming opponents, hoping to find a weakness he can exploit. Outstanding work ethic." Sounds like a surefire top pick to us.

Five Things We Think We Think

    1. Not a good week for Sayid bin Sariyah (LAD) and Jaden Durham (MON). Sariyah had 20 at bats, Durham had 21. Sariyah had 1 hit, Durham had 2. Both are speedsters on the base paths but it's hard to steal bases when you can't reach first.

    2. The streak goes on. Wes Perry (LAD) has now won 21 in a row and is undefeated in his last 24 starts. In two games this year he's 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA and would be 2-0 if Jimmy George hadn't blown a 9th inning lead against Batavia on April 13th.

    3. Montreal is 11 out of 13 for stolen bases in 7 games. Five different players have swiped a base with CF C.J. Carlson leading the way with four coming in the opening series against Toronto. To be fair though Toronto allows everyone to steal a base. Both catchers combined to throw out only two out of twelve attempts this week.

    4. Milestone countdown. Mike Moral (CAL) needs 15 hits to reach 2500 on his career. Dylan Owens (TOR) hit four HR's this week and needs 24 more to reach 400 on his career. On a bigger scale Jamie O'Hearn (PIT) is 36 home runs short of tying the BLB all-time record of 572 held by Dani Alvarez. He hit 33 each of the last two seasons but didn't go yard opening week.

    5. A couple of very similar brawls this week marred the festivities. On April 9th Denver pitcher Manabu Hamada and California RF Ruben Jimenez were ejected after a 4th inning bench clearing brawl. After Hamada gave up a home run to Danny Rodriguez he was down 2-0 to Jimenez before deciding to bean him. On April 11th Montreal 1B J.D. Fazlic and Toronto pitcher Tommy Campbell were ejected after a 4th inning bench clearing brawl. After Campbell gave up a home run to Dave Maldonado he was up 0-2 on Fazlic before deciding to bean him. All parties involved were suspended three games each by the commissioner.
