2026 California Kodiaks
What's New? Bargain Shopping
The Kodiaks come into the season in the tails of a 107 loss season. With limited budget room, the focus was on a major trade and a bunch of cheap, high ceiling old guys to round out a very flawed roster.
Calling Card? Old Dingers
The lineup will feature a who’s who of BLB all stars (Ackers, Gosser, Deiwert, Webber, and Stark)… from 4-8 years ago. The focus in the off season was to sign a bunch of guys that could hit and that would make the fans happy enough to come to the park.
Kryptonite? Any Team That Can Hit
This team has very little pitching. The continued maturation of former 9th round pick Scooter Nackers has been incredible. He has gone from being a complete after thought to the ace of a very weak staff. Hopefully the staff can keep it together for a year or two, while the three top pitching prospects (Horton, Bruno, and East) mature in the minors.
In the System? Pitching...Finally
This team has had one of the poorest minor league systems for the last few years. With the trades and rebuild last year, they have finally introduced from very promising young bats (Solorio, Coker, and Thomas) to go with the aforementioned pitchers.
Player(s) to Watch? Mike Morla and Erik Redding
30 year old Morla had his worst year yet as a Kodiak and it produced a slash line of 0.321/0.381/0.499 and a 6 WAR… Not bad at all! Erik Redding, however, is primed to turn into one of the bright young stars in the BLB. A full season batting in front of Morla, will give Redding the chance to hit for 0.300/30/100 and he will not have to be the only guy responsible for driving in runs in this offence.
Magic 8-Ball Answers: Does California have the team to make the playoffs? No! Prediction: 71-91, last in their division
