  • O'Hearn commits to the Millers future

    Pittsburgh, Pa. -

In what was an offseason of exodous for the Millers, there were many rumors circulating around suggesting Jamie O'Hearn would be departing the club. Our sources confirm, there was a deal or two that was advanced to a point where the thought was looking like a reality.

Ultimately the club and the player discussed the future of the club, and decided to come to an agreement that will keep O'Hearn in black and gold for the rest of his career.

"This is where I want to finish my career. I've experienced so much in this town, I've accomplished a lot and when the Millers came to me and told me that this was a possibility, I agreed." O'Hearn said.

Coming off of argubaly one of his best seasons, the star slugger hit .291/.371/.582/.952 with 47 HR and 114 RBI. O'Hearn has 318 career home runs, and wants to finish as the all time leading home run hitter in the organization.

"It's crazy to think that I'm in the record books already. It's not something I strive for, but we've accomplished a lot together. I want that to continue."

This offseason saw long time Miller 2B, and best friend of Jamie O'Hearn Pat Vickers leave in a blockbuster deal to Carolina. O'Hearn was hurt when this deal happened. "It sucked. When we got here we wanted to finish our careers together in Pittsburgh and I thought forsure it would happen. Pat and I talked a while after it happened and we have been in communication since then. He'll do well there for sure, but it won't be the same. I hate the thought of having to compete with him, but as I'm sure he'll tell you...I hope we kick his ass in the Brewmasters."

O'Hearn quickly became close with last season power acquisition Dave Webber, who also agreed to a pact that will keep him in Pittsburgh for the forseeable future. "Dave is a great player, and he knows so much about hitting, his profile will be great here and we can do a lot of damage."

When asked about whats next, O'Hearn was clear. "We're not rebuilding. That was promised to me, and I believe it. (GM) Mike told me when we sat down that he had some ideas to address different things even though we lost guys like (Milt) Stoll, Tommy (Bartholomew), Diego (Lovera) and Pat. I believe him. I'll be peeled off the field before I give up my dream of a championship. I'm obsessed with the idea of winning the ring here for these fans. We always seem to have some young guys in the system who come up and contribute and I'll try to help them when they get here."

For O'Hearn, he's been a stalwart in the Millers organization since he was the 3rd overall pick in the 2014 draft. He made his debut at 20 years old, and has been a regular since then. The future is his, and for the fans of the Millers, it's okay to finally invest in the #12 Millers jersey that they've been hesitant to purchase. (CC: @oldtakesexposed on twitter.)
