Jaime Matlock is a 30 year old left-handed pitcher and lawyer.
Or is he?
The left-handed part is true, sure. So is the lawyer part.
But a pitcher?
Matlock attended Florida State from 2007 through 2011, where he was a member of the baseball team.
"I had a jersey. I had a locker. I practiced," Matlock explains. "But I never got into a game."
After graduating in 2011, Matlock moved back to Massachusetts, where he grew up, and attended Harvard Law School. He practices law in Boston.
But though he enjoys his legal career, he says, he hasn't abandoned his baseball dreams.
"I guess with my name, it was inevitable I'd be a lawyer. But I still stay sharp and attend tryouts whenever I can," Matlock says. "Seattle offered me a contract twice. I even made it to minor league spring training in March. But then they cut me. I didn't make it to Opening Day."
"I just want to get into a game," Matlock goes on. "A pro game. I don't care where. It's been my dream since I was a boy. I believe I can help a team somewhere. I can get guys out. I just want a chance to show it."
Perhaps someday that opportunity will come. If it does, it would be something straight out of a television series.
