I don't know how to make a bold prediction from here.

Mostly I'm surprised at how good the Ale is. Syracuse might be the biggest surprise there. Their emergence led this division to be even tougher than expected. There are no easy games here.

Clowns' rookie SS Ian Schneider must be considered the biggest surprise. Not even a highly touted prospect, he made the All-Star game this year and has played as well as any shortstop in baseball.

Jimmy Razza heading from Washington to New Orleans at age 33 and pitching better also counts as a surprise. He's having one of his best seasons and made the All-Star game.

How about the Domestic League batting leaders being a pair of second basemen hitting over .350?

Finally, Ed Carroll at last made the leap -- at least for this half+ a season.

Bold predictions: What's ahead in the second half and playoffs?

Hopefully more quality baseball. Barring any setbacks Reeves in the Andrew Miller role is something I dream about constantly.

First-half surprises, disappointments: What players and teams have defied expectations?

Thought Los Alamos and DVS would be better. Denver has played really well and with the young players they have this might become the norm.

Midseason awards: Who would take home hardware if the season ended today?

              Pale Ale ... Jarrod Syversten.

Breakout stars: You need to be familiar with these names.

Dave Seibert has been the best 3B in the DL and nobody, including HAL knows who he is. Might be the best defensive 3B in the game.

Danny Garcia, once hated on by Pat in the Slack Chat, has been getting more comfortable. I expect him to finish with 30 dingers. Not bad for a rookie campaign.

Including the 3 games I play in the playoffs, there's plenty of time for him to hit 17 more home runs

If we are including playoffs, no way.

Pitt is going to the Brew.

                    Don't tell JJ.

I'm rooting for him. The Millers deserve a Brewmaster's.

Bold predictions: What's ahead in the second half and playoffs? Hopefully a winning record and playoff birth, but probably not.

First-half surprises, disappointments: What players and teams have defied expectations? Wilmington's bullpen is crap. That's on me missing FA. Oops.

Midseason awards: Who would take home hardware if the season ended today? Not anyone on Wilmington.

Breakout stars: You need to be familiar with these names. Not anyone on Wilmington.

What's wrong with the BLB?: There are issues and can they be fixed? Not anyone on Wilmington. Oops that doesn't make any sense here. ;)

Tackling these from a personal POV for now:

Bold predictions: We'll finish our climb out of the cellar and grab a WC spot. From there we'll take our chances with a really good SP 1,2,3 and a revamped defense. Excited to see where this 2nd half takes us.

First-half surprises, disappointments: Personally, our biggest surprise has been C Billy Herrera. He's basically been our Team MVP. Biggest personal disappointment has to be our 5-15 April. It's a hole we continue to try to dig out of. As far as I can remember that has to be one of the worst months in team history.

Midseason awards: Just mentioned, team MVP would be Billy Herrera. Best pitcher would be Pat Evans, of course. I don't know what we'll do when he's gone. Can't believe he's 34 already. Dusty Riddleberger has seamlessly taken over the closer role and been a true anchor of a fairly decent BP.

Breakout stars: We're a veteran bunch so no real surprises here. Ian Tendick has struggled with the bat a little bit more than we expected, but he's holding his own (including a fairly hot July line of .357 | .486 | .500).

What's wrong with the BLB?: Lack of DH in the IL :)
