  • Hernandez becomes BLB's all-time wins leader

<img src="http://i.imgur.com/IewCie0.png" style="float:right; width:175px;margin:22px 56px;border:solid black 2px;">PORTLAND, ME -- The Maine Guides' 9-2 home victory over the Syracuse Slammers marked the 266th career win for longtime Guides starting pitcher Fernando Hernandez.

With this win, he passed Hall of Fame hurler Russ McEvoy to claim the top spot in the record book for himself.

"It means a lot to know I've gone out on the mound and done what I needed to do to help my team win more times than anybody else," said Hernandez.

"And I feel grateful to have had the teammates I've had over the years in Los Alamos and Carolina and here in Maine to make this happen, because I couldn't have done it without them.

"I've never really looked ahead and thought about the record. I just focus on doing what I need to do to go out there every fifth day and help my team. But it does feel good to reach this milestone."

The team also announced earlier on Saturday, prior to the game, that the 42 year old Hernandez had signed a contract extension with the club that will keep the new record holder in Old Port through the 2020 season.

Hernandez will have an opportunity to extend his record this year and next.

How close can he get to the 300 mark, which (obviously) no BLB pitcher has ever reached?

    Only time will tell.

But we know Hernandez will do whatever it takes, day by day, as he always has.

Nice. It always seems like records can't be broken.

      Until they are.

        That it does.

        Yahn has a shot.

But he's 34 years old, reliant on velocity, playing for a bad team, and 78 wins behind.

I dont think he gets there, but have we still ever seen a 101+ velocity since then?? Was that a one time thing?? Just wondering.

Yahn is the only player I've seen with the 100+ MPH designation.

Yeah. And I think that was only after the News Story saying he added some muscle.

                    Maybe.

He's had that designation as long as I can remember. It was there in 2008 when the Dinos upset my club in the DLCS.
