-Javier Nazaro has been hit by a pitch 24 times so far this season. It's the sixth time he's reached 20+ HBP in a season so far in his career. That matches Carmem Chamissa and Francious St-Laurent for the most 20+ HBP seasons. No one else in league history has more than 4 such seasons.

-The single season record for HBP is 30 (Don O'Finnegan and Robert Abbott).

-Joe Iliquez was hit by 29 pitches in 1989 but never came close to approaching 20+ HBP in a season in any other year (closest he came was 16 the year prior).

In the four seasons from 2014 through 2017, Steve Suarez was hit by a pitch a total of one time.

This year (2018), he's been hit by a pitch 13 times.

His next-highest season mark is six, set all the way back in his second season, 2002.

I still don't understand why to hit a player with a pitch... Is it because the pitchers want to hurt them?

It's rarely on purpose, but at times it is done to send a message not to injure. The majority of the time it comes from trying to pitch a guy in off the plate as a part of pitch sequencing. It's remarkably difficult to throw a ball exactly where intended. Sometimes it just gets away from you.

How can I see the record of AVG by a hitter in on season? Anywhere in the app?

If you go to the BLB tab and go down to League History, the link to the season and career records is there.

In the app I meant. I don't have access to the game now.

Thanks for your explanation though :)

In 1999, Hall of Fame third baseman Pedro Zamarida, who was a great BLB player from the very beginning in 1978, played his final game in the BLB.

Also in 1999, Fernando Hernandez made his BLB debut.

Put another way, the careers of Zamarida and Hernandez span the entire modern history of the BLB.

In 42 seasons, we've yet to see one that did not include either Pedro Zamarida or Fernando Hernandez. (Legendary hitter Harry Keppel played from 1978 through 1998, so the same could be said of him and Hernandez.)
