  • Millers Russell not concerned about winless start

    Pittsburgh, Pa.

Lebron said it best, "not one...not two...not three...not four..."

    How about six?

"That's just baseball." Millers skipper Jerry Russell had to say when asked his thoughts after the sixth straight loss to open the year. "We look at the games and there's a few things I would have done differently but all things considered if some bounces go our way we could be 6-0."

The players echo the thoughts of their leader.

"I know we haven't won a game yet but nobody is stressing or anything, we need to just keep focusing on winning one day at a time, and I'm still confident in our guys" CF Jamie O'Hearn said.

"Just gotta keep grinding. Long season, we'll get one." Pat Vickers.

Others had a seemingly jovial approach when asked about the teams struggles.

"All I gotta say is this... Indy and LA this week can't let us win one. Everyone's gonna have to beat our asses because once we get the taste of one win, that's a wrap. " first time starting catcher Tristian Nelson said. "Oh yeah, and after we win our first game, I'm throwing a f---ing monster party and I'm gonna get shit faced."

Let's win a game first, shall we?

You can go game by game and see that the Millers were in every game last week, ultimately not able to pull a win out.

While Russell consistently preaches a calm collected approach, millers GM Mike C is notorious for jumping the gun and making mass amounts of moves. When asked for comment, Mike was all the more willing to take the mic.

"It's a long season, and this is going to be a different type of year. Our message to the fans has been consistent from when we lost last year. The future is now. If that means an 81 win season to let the young guys play, so be it. I still believe there's enough talent here to make a playoff push, and starting 0-6 just allows us to see how this groups character is. Can they overcome this adversity to get themselves upright? I sure hope so."

The record indicates discourse and confusion within the organization, however the focus remains same. It'll be fascinating to see how the team handles adversity this season.

0-6 was crazy. It's funny how teams tend to hot starts or slow starts. Wonder what drives it?

It builds character. Not sure if the game factors that in but realistically, the battle back will test the players in tougher situations. With young guys, that's exactly what I want.
