Victor Contreras to Miss 12-13 Months: Watching Victor Contreras getting helped off the field today at The Capitol, fans of the Washington Bats feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the reliever will miss 12-13 months with a torn flexor tendon in his elbow. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Contreras suffered the injury throwing a pitch in the game against the Tobs.

Dunham Records Shutout Against New York: Dave Dunham scattered 4 hits in going the distance in the Seattle 8-0 victory over the New York Knights at Port of Seattle. The 34-year-old Dunham whiffed 4 and allowed 1 walk in the game.

Watts Dominates Wilmington: "Sometimes I was smart... and sometimes just a little lucky." That's how Brendan Watts of the Syracuse Slammers described his shutout victory over the Wilmington Wildcats. Watts blanked them 4-0 on 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 1.

Blues Whitewashed by Andujar: Enrique Andujar of the Davenport Brawlers gave the Blues a steady diet of fine pitches and he walked off the mound with a complete-game shutout. He blanked them 6-0 on 5 hits with a total of 2 strikeouts and no walks.

The Davenport manager said, "Andujar was on quite a roll. He gets great late movement and he doesn't give in to the hitters."

Bulldogs Southerland Suffers Injury: It took the Baltimore team doctor a while to realize it, but left fielder Dave Southerland won't simply play through a broken kneecap after he got hurt running the bases in today's Pilots-Bulldogs game. At first, it looked like Southerland might be back as early as tomorrow, but now the prognosis isn't quite so good; he's expected to miss at least 7-8 months.

During the current season Southerland is batting at a .297 clip with no home runs and 1 RBIs. He has played in 12 games and scored 4 times.

      Washington's Abrams Suspended 4 Games:
The Washington Bats were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to New York at Kennedy Field at Metropolitan Stadium. One in particular -- Tom Abrams. Upon being called out on strikes, the Bats third baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.

But the disgruntled Abrams lingered on the field for another five minutes, berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.

But it got worse after the game, when Abrams told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in Braille, so he can follow along."

For his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Abrams for 4 games.

On the year Abrams has hit .239 with no home runs, 2 RBIs and scored 6 runs.

Kansas City's Dunn Reaches 2000 Hits:
T.J. Dunn, welcome to the club -- the 2000-hit club.

The Kansas City first baseman gained membership in that elite group in a 12-7 victory over the California Kodiaks at In-N-Out Field.

2 hits in 4 at-bats today enabled the Comets star to reach the milestone.

His lifetime stats show that Dunn has hit .286 and connected for 416 home runs.

      Brawlers Enrique Andujar Sidelined:
Enrique Andujar and the Davenport Brawlers got a bad break in today's game against the Pilots as the team confirmed he will miss 13-14 months with a damaged elbow ligament. The Brawlers starting pitcher suffered the injury throwing a pitch. The team doctor is confident he'll make a full recovery.

      Hidetoshi Haraguchi's Home Robber Arrested:
Hidetoshi Haraguchi was all smiles today as he told local reporters that the man who robbed his home recently has been arrested by local authorities.

"They caught him," he said. "I think I'm even going to be able to get some of my stuff back."

Haraguchi said his Washington Batsteammates provided great support for him while he was struggling with this issue and he believes the team has come together and bonded as a result.

"Thankfully it's a happy ending and this low-life will get what he deserves," he said.

Jamie Minor said many of the guys on the team gave Haraguchi a big hug when they heard the news.

"We're happy for him, it's been stressing him out, so it's nice to see it come to a conclusion," he said.

It's Official: RF Rosema Signs with Comets: Sportswriters, fans and team officials watched today as 35-year-old right fielder Jimmy Rosema committed to a $7,700,000, 1-year deal with the Kansas City organization.

Some openly worry that despite his talent, Rosema is too old to get it done anymore and that his value to the club will sharply diminish before the 1-year agreement has run its course.

        Friday, June 16th, 2017

Scrutiny begins early in the life of an amateur baseball player. Very likely it started while he was in high school. Scouts have traveled many miles to come up with a portfolio of players who have the potential to play in Brewers League Baseball. It all comes to fruition on rookie draft day. It's a crapshoot. Kansas City, Seattle, Toronto, Davenport and Carolina will have the first five cracks at hitting the jackpot this year. According to most baseball analysts, these 10 draftees are most likely to be chosen in the early rounds:

        1. Jimmy Langlois, 17 year-old 1B out of high-school.
        2. Ernie Stover, 20 year-old LF out of college.
        3. Jamie Kitchen, 17 year-old 3B out of high-school.
        4. Jerrod Blick, 20 year-old RHP out of college.
        5. Earl Frizzell, 20 year-old RHP out of college.
        6. Marco Carrasco, 20 year-old LHP out of college.
        7. Joey Maurer, 20 year-old LHP out of high-school.
        8. Joey Walz, 20 year-old 1B out of college.
        9. Jimmy McGraw, 20 year-old CF out of college.
        10. Tom King, 17 year-old LHP out of high-school.

        Fernando Hernandez Records Win #250:
Fernando Hernandez of the Maine Guides will go down as one of the league's legendary pitchers after his 2-0 win today against the Indianapolis Clowns.

"It felt like it was a postseason game, one out at a time," said his manager. "It was something special to see."

The 40-year-old Hernandez picked up his 250th career victory at Old Port Park. He hurled 8 innings, gave up 6 hits and registered 7 strikeouts along with 1 walk.

"I've worked a long time for this," Hernandez said. "I can't believe it's really here. It feels great!"

Since his debut in the league, Hernandez has posted 250 victories and 158 defeats with an ERA of 3.15.

Jamie McPherson Gets Hit Number 2000: Los Angeles's Jamie McPherson entered the record books today as he collected hit number 2000 at Samuel Stone Memorial Field.

"I am proud of this. Not too many player reach this level. You have to be around quite a few years and you have to get a lot of hits," McPherson said after the game.

On his milestone day he went 1 for 4 as the Dinos won 4-1 over the Hartford Whalers.

In his 1722-game career McPherson has tagged 2000 hits with 449 doubles, 60 triples and 266 home runs. His lifetime batting average is .315 with 971 RBIs and 1149 runs scored.

T.J. Dunn out 5 Weeks With Injury: The Kansas City Comets announced this afternoon that first baseman T.J. Dunn would be out of action for 5 weeks. He sustained a torn meniscus playing the Dukes. It happened running the bases.

This season Dunn is swinging the bat at a .295 rate with 69 hits in 234 at-bats. To date he has hit 12 home runs, scored 34 runs and driven in 37.

          Los Alamos's Brendan Hurst Injured:
It was announced today in Los Alamos that Amigos starting pitcher Brendan Hurst will be on the mend for 5 months because of a torn rotator cuff he sustained in a recent game against the Davenport Brawlers. Hurst was injured throwing a pitch.

This season Hurst has compiled a 3-4 record with a 3.33 ERA.

          RP Ruben Mendoza Hurt:
The Dallas Sharks were dealt a severe blow when Ruben Mendoza was hurt throwing a pitch recently in a game against the Pawtucket Patriots. After the game, the team trainer reported Mendoza might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 35-year-old reliever out for the rest of the season with a damaged elbow ligament. They indicated it would take Mendoza at least 13 months to heal.

So far this year Mendoza has delivered 4 saves. In 33 relief appearances he has 51 strikeouts in 43 innings with a 1.67 ERA and 5 wins and 1 loss.

Jimenez Cops 600th Save, Dallas Tops Clowns 5-3:
Reynaldo Jimenez had been especially quiet lately, not wanting too talk too much about anything. Jimenez knew that an amazing milestone was on the horizon for him. All the fabled bullpen ace needed was one more successful inning or two to achieve a special place in baseball history. The thought of it turned the talkative Jimenez silent.

But Jimenez's emotions erupted after he retired the Indianapolis Clowns to preserve the Dallas Sharks 5-3 victory and record the 600th save of his Brewers League Baseball career.

One of the Sharks players told reporters, "It's an amazing feat. It's probably the only time that any of us will ever have a teammate get 600 saves."

Jimenez has totaled 600 saves in his career. In 1104 games, he has a 78-56 won-lost mark, 1.83 ERA and 1711 strikeouts in 1217 innings.

Lovera Finishes Off Bulldogs 6-4 for 300th Save:
It took just 1 innings of work for Windy City reliever Diego Lovera to collect career save number 300. The 30-year-old hurler gave up no runs and 1 hit during his outing as the Blues toppled the Baltimore Bulldogs 6-4. "The milestone weighs on your mind a bit, so I'm glad it's over," a relieved Lovera said after the game. "I was tired of talking about it and I'm sure my teammates were tired of it, too."

In his career Lovera has converted 300 saves. In 561 games, he has registered a 39-36 won-lost mark with 840 strikeouts in 576.1 innings and compiled a 1.97 ERA.

Gomez Dominates in 13-1 Win over Import League All-Stars:
There's a whole lot of pride on the line when the best baseball players throughout Brewers League Baseball gather for the all-star game.

It was no different this year, as the Domestic League bested the Import League by a score of 13-1, in a spirited contest played at Lawrence Stadium.

"It might be a little lower intensity than the regular season or playoffs, but everyone in that clubhouse still wants to win this game," said Danny Gomez of the Domestic League, who was named the game MVP.

Gomez has a career .260 batting average with a .309 OBP. He has hit 198 homers, driven in 557 runs and scored 515 runs since he came into the league.

                  Lippert Twirls No-Hitter Against Pilots:
Dave Lippert was unhittable today as he beat the Pilots 3-0. The Washington pitcher breezed through the Seattle lineup and got himself a no-hitter. Lippert had them talking to themselves as he struck out 9 and issued 1 walk in an outstanding performance at The Capitol.

His catcher said to reporters after the game, "He started off slow. He didn't have command of anything in the first three innings, but lucked his way through them. The Pilots really helped him out by not being patient... they hit a lot of first pitches. Then it all came together in the fourth. From there on, the Pilots never had a chance. He dominated them."

To date this season Lippert sports a 6-2 mark with a 2.58 ERA in 15 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .215 batting average and has 107 strikeouts in 90.2 innings.

Hartford's Edwards Suspended 4 Games: The Hartford Whalers were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Wilmington at Samuel Stone Memorial Field. One in particular -- Marques Edwards. Upon being called out on strikes, the Whalers left fielder gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.

But the disgruntled Edwards lingered on the field for another five minutes, berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.

But it got worse after the game, when Edwards told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in Braille, so he can follow along."

For his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Edwards for 4 games.

So far in 2017 Edwards is batting .223 with 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 247 at-bats and a .289 OBP.

Fantastic all star game for Danny Gomez, he's killing it this year. Orbon gets his first all star game in his second year of professional :)
