PORTLAND, ME -- Responding to recent rumors, the Maine Guides conceded on Wednesday that they do not intend to protect star first baseman T.J. Dunn in the upcoming expansion draft.
Dunn, who turns 35 years old in January, has had a distinguished career in Toronto, Pawtucket, and Maine, whom he joined last season.
The 2008 DL Stout Slugger, Dunn has been selected to seven All-Star Games, including in 2016.
But he apparently didn't quite live up to the lofty expectations of a franchise who finished a game shy of playoff qualification.
Dunn represents a potentially attractive piece to an expansion franchise seeking his remaining production and popularity to serve as the face of the team.
