Orbon Celebrates Birth of New Baby: Dusty Orbon has a pretty good reason to miss a game: the birth of his child. Orbon left early this morning to return home to be with his expecting wife. "I talked to him a little while ago", commented Sharks manager Martín Nigo. "He was as excited as a new father can be." Orbon is expected back in uniform in a couple of days.

      Dunn Reaches 400 Mark:
Swinging his way into the record books, T.J. Dunn reached the 400 homer mark today at Old Port Park against the Syracuse Slammers. He went 2-for-4 with 2 runs batted in and 1 run on the day, although Maine would go down to defeat 10-6.

"It was a distraction," Dunn said of his 400th home run, "I'm happy it's over. I just wish I'd been able to make a difference in the outcome today."

Dunn has a lifetime average of .288, has played in 1712 games, and has collected 400 home runs and 1174 RBIs.

      St. Thomas Socks 300th HR:
Los Angeles Dinos slugging right fielder Pat St. Thomas swatted his way to the 300 home run mark today as the Dinos fell to the Denver 7-6.

For his part, St. Thomas chipped in 3 runs batted in, scored 2 runs and collected 1 hit in 3 at-bats, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

"It was a special day for Pat," the team publicist said afterward, "He was disappointed at the result, but everyone was all smiles as he crossed home plate. We're proud of him."

During his career St. Thomas is batting .233 and has totaled 300 home runs.

5-Hit Blitz by Smart: 5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Batavia's Sullivan Smart had a very special day against the Tobs when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats -- and led the Batavia Muckdogs to a 12-1 win at Tobs Stadium. "I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Smart said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em." Sullivan Smart doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Presently Smart is batting .309 and has collected 5 home runs, 39 RBIs, .361 OBP and scored 58 runs.

Honea at His Best, Whips Amigos: In an impressive outing Dave Honea hurled nothing but zeros at the Amigos today at The Sandbox. The Death Valley pitcher allowed 2 hits, fanned 8 and walked 0 in blanking Los Alamos 5-0.

Bulldogs Lose Roberson for 5 Months:
Disappointing news today for Baltimore Bulldogs fans. Malik Roberson was hurt colliding with a player at a base in their game against the Washington Bats and has a broken bone in the elbow. Team trainers were hesitant to predict a date for return but said it was likely the injury will keep the right fielder out at least 5 months.

To date this year Roberson is batting .288 with 18 home runs.

Wood Bangs Out 5 Base Hits:
Tom Wood was on fire today and sparked his club to a 6-5 victory over the Dinos. The Denver left fielder was a tough out and went 5 for 7 against Los Angeles in a fine hitting display. "I got my pitches and I connected. They all found the right holes on the diamond. Some days you hit shots and they're right at somebody... and some days they fall in." Tom Wood doubled in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, hit a two-run single in the 5th, singled in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th, singled in the 12th and hit a solo-shot off Tom Zajic in the 14th.

To date Wood has chalked up a .276 average with 3 home runs, driven in 24 runs and scored 22 times.

Bad News for Guides, Martin Injured:
The Maine Guides were dealt a severe blow when Troy Martin was hurt throwing a pitch recently in a game against the New York Knights. After the game, the team trainer reported Martin might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 34-year-old closer out for the rest of the season with a torn labrum. They indicated it would take Martin at least 4-5 months to heal.

In the 2016 campaign Martin has 15 saves. In 46 relief appearances he has tossed 52.1 innings, struck out 32 and yielded 26 walks with a 4-4 record. The Maine reliever has recorded a 5.33 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .316 when he is in the game.

The AHL Portland Pirates are moving to Springfield.

This bodes well for Guides attendance in the spring.

Seems like a pretty shitty thing for the team to do. They're leaving a town of 70,000 with $55 million+ in debt. That's a tough pill to swallow.

Boyd Brushes Off Clubhouse Issues: The manager of the Syracuse Slammers said complaints about the morale and chemistry in his team's clubhouse are overblown.

"No big deal," said Steve Boyd. "Every ball team goes through issues like this and I think we'll be OK."

Tzu-jao Xiang had spoken up to the media recently, saying it was difficult to concentrate on baseball with all the conflict in the dressing room. The approach didn't sit too well with some of his teammates.

"You don't go and talk to the media about stuff like that," said Roger Medina. "There's no need to air your dirty laundry, it doesn't help anything."

                Rumor: Sanchez Wants Out:
It is unknown at this time if there is any truth to the rumor that Morgantown's Mike Sanchez has asked his team for a trade. Insiders indicate the starting pitcher might not be happy with club management. So far, the team's owners have refused to comment.

Patriots Shortstop Herrington Injured: Pawtucket shortstop Seth Herrington left today's game with shoulder tendinitis. The injury looked like it occurred colliding with a player at a base in the game against Baltimore. One fan said, "As soon as it happened, you could tell something was wrong." The injury will likely leave the Patriots without Herrington for about 4 weeks.

In 2016 Herrington has hit at a .246 clip with 90 hits, 9 home runs, 34 RBIs and has scored 41 times.

Star 2B Signs Pact with Sharks: Media analysts hailed Dallas's signing of Danny Romero, one of Brewers League Baseball's brightest stars, as a pivotal move.

While the deal is certain to raise a few eyebrows, Romero is expected to earn every bit of the $69,960,000 promised him over 4 years.

This season Romero is batting .281 with 68 hits, 2 home runs, 29 RBIs, 14 walks, .323 OBP and has scored 26 runs. He has played in 64 games.

Marrujo Twirls No-Hitter Against Freedom: Jonathan Marrujo relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Philadelphia hitless in his 3-0 win.

"I stayed ahead of batters," he said after the game, "and was able to get a lot of quick outs. My defense deserves a lot of credit too. They had to be on their toes and they saved me several times."

The 33-year-old starter rung up 5 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Freedom.

"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," the Philadelphia skipper said.

On the season Marrujo has compiled a 6-10 mark with a 3.74 ERA in 25 starts. In pitching 146.2 innings he has 100 strikeouts and 47 walks while limiting the opposition to a .246 batting average.

Los Angeles's Palomares Shuts out Tobs: In a splendid 14-0 shutout performance, David Palomares of the Los Angeles Dinos subdued the Carolina Tobs on a 4-hitter.

His manager said in postgame comments, "He kept hitting his spots and putting up zeroes."

Palomares registered 5 strikeouts and no walks.

This year Palomares has made 25 starts, thrown 157 innings, fanned 102 batters and walked 23. His won-lost record is 12-6 with a 4.01 ERA.
