Canadians Shut out by Brummett: Before the game Gil Brummett liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Dukes pitcher whitewashed the Toronto Canadians 6-0.

Brummett said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."

The New Orleans starter held Toronto scoreless, giving up 4 hits while registering 4 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.

"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Canadians manager said in his postgame interview.

"When that happens, you usually lose."

This season-to-date Brummett has 7 wins and 7 losses and a 2.81 ERA.

Taylor Blanks Dinos: Todd Taylor had the Los Angeles Dinos dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 8-0 shutout performance for the Pittsburgh Millers. He gave up 5 hits, issued no walks and had 3 strikeouts.

Los Angeles hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.

The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."

Checking out his stats for the season, Taylor has racked up 11 wins and 1 loss in 15 starts, 1.76 ERA and struck out 112 batters in 107.1 innings.

Teel Hurls No-Hitter Against Brawlers: In a dominant outing, Dave Teel of Windy City totally silenced the bats of the Davenport Brawlers. In the 7-0 victory he faced only 28 batters, surrendered no hits, had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"I'll be very honest with you," his manager said. "I didn't know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning. I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had. Then I happened to notice that they didn't have any hits."

Commenting on his defeat, the losing manager told reporters in the clubhouse how he saw the game, "Well, it was pretty simple today, the Blues had all the hits and all the runs. And Teel pitched a heck of a ballgame."

In 16 starts this season Teel has registered a 5-3 record and a 2.51 ERA.

          Was it that bad?

Hernandez never finished higher than fifth in the league in innings pitched.

I have been gentler with everyone beginning this year though.

Oh not bad whatsoever. Me and you have both had great rotations, but where I always have these hard pitch counts and yank on a tight slider then come 7th inning rely on the setup guys and closer, your guys are racking up huge innings and typically lead in complete games. Both ideas work, but I've always admired how you push them.

Well if you starter can be efficient with 95-100 pitches then sure he can complete a game or go deep, but most likely 100 pitches you hope gives you a quality game.

"Pitch counts" started for Pawtucket mainly cuz we had a history of fragile starters beginning with a pitcher called Manny Ocampo. Then we had a generation of these pitchers (Tyler Gerard, Ivan Gutierrez finally Talley) add in some stamina players of 5 and under....

it sort of evolved. EVERYONE including the bullpen arms has a pitch count in Pawtucket.

I thought his injury history was going to bury him. I traded him on the cheap and regretted it. I never expected him to continue at that level well into his thirties.

Import League Defeats Domestic League 1-0 in Tight All-Star Game: Despite his best efforts, game MVP Dave Robinson's Domestic League All-Stars couldn't overcome the powerful Import League squad in the annual All-Star Game.

"We tried our best, but did you see the talent in that lineup?" Robinson was quoted as saying after the game. "I'm honored to be named MVP of the game. To stand among the greatest stars of the game and be declared the best among them is truly an honor, even if we didn't end up winning the game. I had fun, and I think the fans did as well."

The Import League All-Stars triumphed in the game by a final score of 1-0 in this year's game at Mountaineer Park.

For his career Robinson has hit at a .237 clip. Among his lifetime numbers are 209 hits, 45 doubles, 2 triples, 35 home runs and 106 RBIs.

Syracuse-Indianapolis Brawl, Stuart and Strachan Suspended:
Ethan Stuart of the Syracuse Slammers and Ian Strachan of the Indianapolis Clowns received notification from the league commissioner's office that they had been suspended for 2 games for their part in the on-field ruckus in a recent game at Syracuse Stadium.

Stuart is batting .267 this year with 16 home runs, 54 RBIs and 47 runs scored. He has 92 hits in 345 at-bats.

On the year, Strachan has recorded 19 saves with a 4-5 record over 44 innings. He has mowed down 57 batters on strikes and walked 15 with an ERA of 3.48.

                            Kodiaks Pat Gardner Hurt:
Kodiaks reliever Pat Gardner will be spending 4 months on the shelf according to his manager. He was hurt in a recent game against Davenport throwing a pitch and suffered shoulder inflammation. The California GM told BNN no decision had been made on his replacement. He said an announcement was forthcoming, probably tomorrow.

Gardner's record this season is 4-and-0 with 2 saves and a 2.43 ERA. He has given up 55 hits in 55.2 innings with 52 strikeouts.

Veteran CL Rodriguez Stays in New Orleans:
David Rodriguez probably doesn't have his best years ahead of him, but he will surely contribute a lot to the Dukes effort.

New Orleans locked him up for an additional 3 years at a rate of $3,150,000 per.

Rodriguez has nailed down 24 saves to date. In 47.1 innings he has fanned 50 batters and walked 26. His pitching record is 1 win and 7 losses with a 2.47 ERA.

Save Number 300 for Freedom Cook:
One of the most important elements of a baseball team is its relief specialist -- the guy who comes in late in the game in crucial situations to stop rallies, and perhaps most of all, to close out the win. That's exactly what Jamie Cook does, and does very well. The Philadelphia bullpen ace copped his 300th career save today at Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower Field. He shut down the Washington Bats and saved the Freedom 2-1 victory. Cook pitched 1 innings, gave up no runs, and allowed no hits to etch his name in the Brewers League Baseball record book.

Cook has made 701 relief appearances and has 300 career saves.

"Win or lose, we all seem to get along pretty well," he said. "I think I'm a pretty easygoing guy and the guys respect that and overall I think we have a pretty good relationship."

Tom Collins said it's true that the players have a lot of respect for their manager.

"He's had all the guys over to his house for a barbecue on more than one occasion. He's a friendly guy and I think the guys appreciate that," he said.

Bad News for Pittsburgh, Garcia Injured: The Pittsburgh Millers will be without the services of Andy Garcia for 6 weeks after an incident in a game against the Indianapolis Clowns. The 31-year-old shortstop was injured while running the bases and suffered a strained posterior cruciate ligament.

In 92 games this year Garcia has posted a .258 average and put up these numbers: 11 home runs, 34 RBIs and 38 runs scored.

Brooks told BNN, "I hurt it throwing a pitch. I'm optimistic that I will be back quicker than they say."

Douglas Strokes 5 Hits: 5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Morgantown's Jimmy Douglas had a very special day against the Bulldogs when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 5 at-bats -- and led the Morgantown Mohawks to a 6-4 win at Mountaineer Park. "I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Douglas said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em." Jimmy Douglas singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.
