Canadians Shut out by Brummett: Before the game Gil Brummett liked his chances and his instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing the Dukes pitcher whitewashed the Toronto Canadians 6-0.
Brummett said in the clubhouse afterward, "I just had a feeling it was going to be my day. My control was awesome. I could throw my curveball even when I was behind in the count."
The New Orleans starter held Toronto scoreless, giving up 4 hits while registering 4 strikeouts and issuing 1 walk.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," the Canadians manager said in his postgame interview.
"When that happens, you usually lose."
This season-to-date Brummett has 7 wins and 7 losses and a 2.81 ERA.
Taylor Blanks Dinos: Todd Taylor had the Los Angeles Dinos dancing to his tune today with a sparkling 8-0 shutout performance for the Pittsburgh Millers. He gave up 5 hits, issued no walks and had 3 strikeouts.
Los Angeles hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."
Checking out his stats for the season, Taylor has racked up 11 wins and 1 loss in 15 starts, 1.76 ERA and struck out 112 batters in 107.1 innings.
Teel Hurls No-Hitter Against Brawlers: In a dominant outing, Dave Teel of Windy City totally silenced the bats of the Davenport Brawlers. In the 7-0 victory he faced only 28 batters, surrendered no hits, had 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"I'll be very honest with you," his manager said. "I didn't know the situation was what it was until the seventh inning. I happened to look up there to see how many hits we had. Then I happened to notice that they didn't have any hits."
Commenting on his defeat, the losing manager told reporters in the clubhouse how he saw the game, "Well, it was pretty simple today, the Blues had all the hits and all the runs. And Teel pitched a heck of a ballgame."
In 16 starts this season Teel has registered a 5-3 record and a 2.51 ERA.
