I completely understand your opinions and fully respect them.

They just aren't how I see things. As a matter of fact, I vehemently disagree with holding on to someone for nostalgia sake. There's no sense to kinda tank. Banuelos gets them to 72 wins and pick 9, maybe without him they win 65 and pick 2. Maybe the difference between pick two and 9 is 100 career WAR and a future HOF player who's currently 21 and fits the mold of the 20-24 year old young talent bursting in the pipeline.

Maybe he does hit .390. It's entirely possible that he does, or he gets hurt bats .260 because he's pissed off that the team is lousy, and then nobody will touch him bc he's about to turn 30,

If it's done correctly he could get tremendous value. Franchise altering value.

Like I said, you guys know so much about the game and I respect your thought process. It's just not how I would approach it and I completely disagree.

We are so like on this subject.

However.....Carlos and even Z play it different. They actually dig this part of the game. Each to its own and have to respect that. I see Z picking up used washed up players in late season so the guy "cross some 300 HR barrier" or some sentimental thing I'll never understand.

Think its best to agree and disagree and move on.

Carlos.....PM me when your ready to trade him.

        Your approach is valid, too.

Each path has consequences of its own.

Trading Banuelos so that the team bottoms out with more than 100 losses has its downsides. It impacts the financial bottom line. It's bad for team morale. It's harder to lure free agents and dig yourself out of the hole. Not impossible, but harder. And there's no guarantee the player you draft at #2 changes your life. It'll probably take him a few years to start contributing.

On the other hand, like you said, by retaining Banuelos, Denver sacrifices an opportunity to grab an elite player at the top of the draft who could be a Jamie O'Hearn or Rex Morgan or someone else. Maybe the return for Banuelos could surprise, too.

It's fun how much freedom the league offers.

If he doesn't find an offer he likes this year, after he hits .370 in 2016, maybe he will find an offer he likes then. I doubt the value will drop on him because he is 30 then. Honestly, if he has another .350+ season, his value could increase. What if he hits .390 and plays in 150+ games next year? It's possible.

              2. Who said his desired result is to lose? Denver won 69 games last year. I think a modest goal for this year would be 72 wins. Trading Banuelos away for a discount rate just to move up a few spots in the draft doesn't make much sense. His owner will be pissed. His budget will probably drop. And the fans won't buy tickets.

              3. I think too often teams have settled for superstar deals. Ask around the league about trades they made of their superstars. Even in the packages where they get multiple picks, multiple prospects, they usually end up saying, "I could have done better." I think Carlos doesn't want to make a trade just to make one...and you got to respect that. But I see Denver making the playoffs before this Banuelos contract ends.

Even if Banuelos retires before Carlos has another winning season, there is also some nostalgic reasons to keep him...as well as chemistry...team records...etc.
              I agree with Pat.

Not sure we match up right now. I need a SS. Need to move BLB talent to get one. May just go with what I have. I'm intrigued by Shane Davis at short this season. Probably a very light bat, but the D's legit. (Also, TWSS)

I know I've said this before but I'm super serious this time, guys.

This is not happening. It's just not happening. Reyna, Davis, Smith, the others are going nowhere until I can't afford them and have no option but to either let them walk or take an offer.

I appreciate the opinions and I also appreciate Mike's. We don't talk a whole lot about the game but when we do, I enjoy those conversations. I'm simply not interested in moving Banuelos for pieces. Give me a sure thing player that compares and I'll talk.

I don't think my team is that far away and having a guy like him on my roster in the coming years will be hugely beneficial.

                              Great read as ever, congratulations.

Orbon is projected to start on the bottom of our rotation for 2016 if he is able to keep up his good numbers during ST. It will move Byers to the bullpen where he´s more effective, we would like to move out a bullpen arm (not Weiss, Valenzuela or Jimenez) to call up Arsenault too, but maybe he´s too young (21) and can wait another year in AAA with a call up in September to get his feet wet.

Contreras is ready to too and wants to play in the majors, he needs to improve his poor numbers though, then Cuesta will be (hopefully) traded somewhere else with his very cheap contract and after an All-Star campaign finished (unfortunately) with a torn rotator cuff.
