    SS Xavier Garnett

    OSA 5-5-4-4-6, DEF 7-6-7-6, 28-years-old, Three-Time All-Star, 2015 Salary: $13.12M

It’s quite rare to see an infield talent like this available in Free-Agency. Garnett turns 29 in February, while the next best Free-Agent infielders are 34-36. It’s not just age that makes him stand above the rest but also talent, intangibles and versatility.

Take his 2015 season with a grain of salt, however. Garnett had his worst season since 2011 but the situation in Syracuse was far from cohesive. The Slammers were expected to compete for a DL Championship after two 98+ win seasons. With OF Ethan Stuart’s impending Free-Agency looming, the Slammers gave him a 7-year $165M in November and told Garnett (as well as others) to wait their turn. Garnett a lifelong Slammer, who prides himself on Work Ethic and Team Loyalty, was spurned.

He hit at a .669 OPS in Spring Training and .546 in April. The Slammers locker room was a mess after starting 10-12. He didn’t have his first “good month” until August. By that time, he knew he was auditioning for other clubs because that contract was never coming. In Aug-Sep-Oct, he hit .817, .808 and .929!

Garnett is a near DWI-level fielder who can play anywhere in the infield, best at SS. His switch-hitting bat is better against RHP but good enough to stay in both lineups. In 2013, he led the BLB in hits with 198. He’s above average at avoiding strikeouts and on the base paths. He’s also quite popular with the fans. The Minnesota native has proven he doesn’t mind the clod weather, either.

It’s easy to see who some of the big players in Free-Agency will be. The New York Knights, Toronto Canadians and Windy City Playboys, all finished 4th in their divisions and are sitting on a boat load of budget room. They also, all could use an upgrade at SS. Toronto and New York would be an easy move for him, staying in the DL facing the pitchers he is familiar with. While a switch to Chicago is a new league, it does put him only a six-hour drive to his family.

The Slammers still have a couple of weeks to convince him to return. They have the budget room and contract flexibility to let some arbitration eligible players walk but it seems like Garnett has his mind set on a new team.

Prediction: Toronto. A quick jump over Lake Ontario and Garnett gets everything he is looking for. A big pay day. Stays in the DL. Moves closer to his family. And best of all, gets to play the Syracuse Slammers in the Pilsner.

    Contract: Six-years, $140

If someone can sign him to that contract, you better jump on it!

I don't see him signing for less than 7/130.

$90m would be cheap in this market. I was thinking $17m-$20m a year.

Doesn't leave me a lot of sims to write.

              -edited contract

I've been out of the FA game for too long.... Back in my day it was a little different!

I just think he's going to be the #1 FA target.

As of right now - he won't negotiate.

He would earlier this year - at a nice rate, as well - but for some reason even after shedding some contracts, I didn't have the budget room until the playoffs. Once the playoffs started and I had the room... he decided he was going to test FA.

                    Enjoy, fellas.

                      SP Brendan Watts

                      OSA 4-7-7, 68% ground ball, 6-stamina, 28-years-old, One-Time All-Star, 2015 Salary: $11.80

Tell me if you have heard this before. Brendan Watts is a rarity. A front-line SP, 28-years-old and available in Free-Agency. Just like his former teammate Garnett, Watts is arguably the most attractive player available.

A low-key teammate who gets along with everyone, Watts prides himself on his craft. His work ethic is known throughout the locker room and he spends a lot of free time reading opponents scouting reports. A pro's pro. The six year veteran is known for his movement and control, with career .6 HR/9 and 1.4 BB/9. He once lead the BLB in BB/9.

Originally from Burbank, California, Watts was a 2nd round pick by the Carolina Tobs. After a short time in the minor league system he was sent packing in 2009 as part of the package that brought 1B Bobby Tiscareno and SP Richard Velasquez, who would eventually go on to win the title in 2011.

Watts is considered an "Iron Man" with his injury history and has been known for logging 200+ IP a season. Never been known as a "stuff guy," scouts around the league expect Watts to continue succeeding in the league long after his 95MPH velocity starts to dip. His ground ball percentage is one of the best in the league. He would hugely benefit from a change of scenery and an infield defense ready to be active.

Again, the list of possible teams could even be longer than Garnett's. Really, who couldn't use a front-end SP who hasn't even hit his prime yet? I think the offers will be coming in and Watts will probably struggle for a few weeks to make a decision. I could see him wanting out of the DL, where he would no longer have to face the DH every start. There is also a chance he might be looking for better weather. Teammates have said he doesn't care if the team wins or loses, as long as he pitches well...and the defense helps him out. I think Los Alamos and California have to be the favorites. Warm weather, low pressure, IL teams and a boat load of cash. I could also see a team Maine or New York being heavily interested as they too have money and pride themselves on pitching. Really, too hard to predict...but I'll try anyways!

Prediction: Los Alamos. Rumors are swirling about the increased activity of the Amigo's GM and after a 78 win campaign they look to be on the cusp of their first winning season since 2004. Watts might not care much about winning or losing but he's about to get paid like he does.

California is already drafting an offer sheet that is focussed on great weather and low pressure.

Could be two years in a row that California nabs the best SP on the market!

                            Didn't even see Watts re-signed.

                            Should have waited.
