Victor Robles Gets Hit Number 2000: It was a banner day for Victor Robles, who collected his 2000th hit in the Windy City 3-2 win over Philadelphia. Robles went 3-3 in the game as both Playboys and Freedom fans cheered Robles, when he reached base after his hit.

"It feels great to get #2000," Robles said afterward, "especially since we won the game."

Robles has a .312 career batting average and has hit a total of 156 home runs.

5-Hit Blitz by Los Alamos's Yonke:
If just anyone could go out and hit a baseball, big dollar contracts wouldn't exist. But they can't, so the good hitters get the big bucks. Geoff Yonke showed how it's done as he went 5 for 5 against the California Kodiaks and helped the Los Alamos Amigos beat them 8-5. The manager for the Kodiaks told the BNN sportswriters, "We made some bad pitches and he took advantage of it. That's the game of baseball. Don't make mistakes and you win a lot more ballgames." If Yonke keeps hitting like this, he could be headed for a big pay raise. Geoff Yonke singled in the 1st, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, singled in the 10th and walked in the 12th.

Yonke is presently hitting at a .280 pace with 8 home runs and 44 RBIs. He has played in 92 games and scored 51 times.

        Kangaroo Court is in Session:
The Windy City Playboys had a restless night after their 3rd home loss in a row. From information leaked from the meeting, veteran teammate, Victor Robles, tried Abe for "high treason, conduct detrimental to the team, and some serious foot odor". The jury of teammates found the 24 year old guilty of all crimes and sentenced him to $100 and one day of charity work.

In his defense, since his arrival in Windy City we've been paying his salary in the form of fake Rolexes. He may have claimed $2 mil in timepieces, but in actuality it's more like $50 in fugazis. I would feel guilty about this, but his .216 BA makes the $40-$60 range our break even point. We feel he's been adequately compensated for his services.

League Gives Johnson and Blaskovich 8-Game Suspensions:
In an announcement today, the league informed J.R. Johnson of Maine and Shane Blaskovich of Pawtucket that they both had been suspended 8 games for fighting in a recent game.

The league president told them, "This type of aggressive behavior will not be tolerated in this league."

Johnson wasn't happy with the length of his suspension. He thought he got the worst deal and told the league commissioner, "In any fight, whoever throws the first punch should get a more severe penalty. If I threw the first punch, I'd expect to get the most punishment. Whoever took the blow should get a lesser punishment."

His manager agreed with him and said something needs to be done about it. "Johnson is right. The league needs to look at its policy and make sure the punishment fits the crime."

For the year Johnson is hitting .200 with 2 home runs. His stats include 9 RBI and 5 runs scored.

This year Blaskovich has recorded a 1-1 mark. In 0 starts he has fanned 20 batters in 18.2 innings with a 8.20 ERA.

As you all know, baseball is not about personal accomplishments, its about winning." Those words were spoken by Tommy Farless of the Davenport Brawlers to BNN after his club dropped a 8-1 decision to Death Valley.
Tommy Farless grounded out in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 9th.

                Watts Shackles Indianapolis:
Brendan Watts of the Syracuse Slammers was really in the zone as he mowed down the Indianapolis hitters 13-0 in a sterling mound performance.

"I'm feeling good overall," he said. "I'm executing my pitches, I'm able to hit my spots and I'm getting outs in key situations."

Watts shut down the Indianapolis Clowns, blanking them on 5 hits while registering 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.

This year Watts has registered 8 wins and 8 losses in 22 starts with a 3.17 ERA while registering 93 strikeouts and 17 walks in 145 innings.

The Canadians manager shrugged off the streak. "There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," he said. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here."

Israel Morales Rockets 3 Home Runs: Regardless of where you stand on the "hardest thing to do in sports" argument, one thing everyone can agree on, is that hitting three home runs in one game is quite an amazing feat. That's exactly what Israel Morales did today at Wildcats Ballpark. He went deep three times and carried his team to victory in the Philadelphia Freedom 11-4 win over Wilmington.

"It all came together. I was seeing the ball well and I got some good pitches to hit," Morales said. "Good things happen, when that happens."

He blistered the Wildcats for 3 hits, batted in 4 runs and scored 3 times.

The Wilmington skipper said, "It ain't like we weren't trying. He was hot and really torched my boys today."

Israel Morales struck out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Toshihiro Nakamura in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Toshihiro Nakamura in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Bob Carrillo in the 7th and walked in the 8th.

This season Morales has hit at a .278 clip with 53 RBIs, 22 home runs and 51 runs scored.

Engstrom is expected back in uniform in a couple of days.

                            Cooney Sharp in Shutout:
"Jimmy Cooney is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the Morgantown hurler tossed a complete game 2-hit shutout against the Carolina Tobs.

"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Cooney. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."

Cooney walked 2 and struck out 4 in the 7-0 victory.

On his stats sheet for the year Cooney shows a 8-10 record, 24 starts, 175.2 innings, 95 strikeouts and a 3.54 ERA.

Eddy Guns Down Wildcats: How good was William Eddy today? Just ask the Wilmington Wildcats, who were blanked 7-0. The Wildcats could muster just 1 hit against the 30-year-old Baltimore hurler. In a fine showing Eddy had 5 strikeouts and walked 3.

This year Eddy has compiled a 13-9 record with a 3.55 ERA.

Shinji Yamashita Records 300th Save, Tames Windy City 2-1:
He came in from the bullpen to a standing ovation, pitched 1 innings and then got another standing ovation. All the cheering was for Shinji Yamashita, who nailed down his 300th career save in a 2-1 win over the Windy City Playboys at Mountaineer Park in Morgantown. The Mohawks star reliever held them to no runs and 2 hits to reach his historic milestone.

Afterwards, the popular Yamashita posed for pictures holding the game ball with "300" scrawled across it and then was toasted by his teammates and reporters in the clubhouse.

During his career Yamashita has chalked up 300 saves.

The Pittsburgh Millers Win Again, Making it 10 Straight!: The Millers have simply been on fire lately racking up 10 wins in a row. Few fans across Brewers League Baseball will have their team come close to winning so many games in a row this year and Pittsburgh Manager, Jerry Russell, urged fans not to take it for granted. "These guys are playing their butts off," said Russell. "I don't know how long it will last but I hope our fans are enjoying it. We sure are!"

                                Injury Setback for Mohawks Baldwin:
Dave Baldwin is hurting again, just a few days into his treatment for a torn biceps. Apparently the injury worsened, so the Mohawks sent the 21-year-old starting pitcher back to the doctors for reexamination. Baldwin told them that the pain had gotten much worse in recent days. It was confirmed that the injury was indeed much more severe that first thought. He was sent to a specialist, who felt that treatment would be longer than first diagnosed. Baldwin will now miss a minimum of 2-3 months.

In 9 starts this season, Baldwin has picked up 5 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 75.1 innings, allowed 62 hits, struck out 60 and posted a 2.27 ERA.
