Sometimes, Soon Just Isn't Soon Enough: At least, that's the message sent by J.R. Lowe when he called a press conference to publicly air his frustration with the Batavia Muckdogs management. "I've been around the block a few times," he said with a mournful note in his voice, "I know how this game is played. And I can say that this is easily the most inept management crew I've ever had the displeasure to work for. I don't want to take anything away from my fellow players" he cautioned, nodding to a few of his teammates who were watching from the sidelines with grim faces. "They're playing their hearts out. It's not their fault that we're losing. But I'm sick and tired of being stabbed in the back by desk jockeys that couldn't pour pee out of a boot if the instructions were written on the heel."
When asked if he had a message for the GM, his tone became harsh. "Yeah, I've got a message. Looking for someone to blame? Look in the mirror."
When asked if he wanted to be traded, he deadpanned, "what do you think?"
Lowe's contract is up at the end of this season. If this press conference was any indication, there is no chance he will re-sign and a trade may be in his future.
Superstar C Inks Deal with Guides: The Maine Guides have finished a deal with All Star-caliber catcher Ray Davila that will extend his stay in Maine at least 4 years and will pay out $46,000,000.
For the year Davila has hit .221 with 4 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 10 runs.
Lang on Fire: 5-5 for Indianapolis: On top of the Indianapolis hit parade today was Robby Lang. He went to the plate 5 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Clowns to a 16-0 victory over the Carolina Tobs. The sweet swinging first baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats." The skipper of the Tobs wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that." Robby Lang hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit a solo-shot off Alex Diaz in the 7th.
Lang has a .277 average and a .315 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 33 hits, 4 home runs and driven in 15 runs.
More Woes For Guides Fernando Hernandez: A bit of bad luck has fallen on the Maine Guides today as they learned that starting pitcher Fernando Hernandez had suffered a setback in his recovery from back spasms and will miss more time than expected. The team's doctors had been optimistic about the player's return date, but have now rescinded the original date. The initial guess at how much more time he'll miss is 4-5 weeks.
So far this year Hernandez has made 7 starts, tossed 41.1 innings, struck out 27 batters and walked 15. His record is 3-3 with a 4.57 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .281 batting average.
