Starting Pitcher Indicted for White Collar Crime: BC SP, Danny Gonzalez, was served a Federal Indictment last Monday for participating in a scheme to defraud investors. Federal Prosecutors report upwards of $9 Million may have been stolen from people across the country. Gonzalez continues to plead his innocence. "I know absolutely nothing about this," the 34-year-old ballplayer said. "All I did was invest in McIntyre and Koch Holdings and next thing I know I'm posting bail." Gonzalez will go to court next week for a preliminary hearing. If convicted, he could face years behind bars. But that won't be an issue according to Gonzalez's high-dollar lawyer. "My client was defrauded by people who sought him and his wealth out and used him to harm others. Mr. Gonzalez was used and it is disgusting that he, the victim, is being labeled as an accomplice to this heinous crime."

For now, the team will be forced to suspend Gonzalez pending the trial.

Latest Injury News for Franco: Sandy Franco could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Pawtucket reliever told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 2 months because of a sprained ankle. He hasn't played since 05/16/2015 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

On the year, Franco has recorded no saves with a 1-2 record over 26.2 innings. He has mowed down 23 batters on strikes and walked 7 with an ERA of 4.39.

Gamboa Tags Number 300: Dallas's 9-1 victory over Maine was highlighted by David Gamboa's 300th career home run. His teammates congratulated him at home plate after he circled the bases.

"I didn't see all of them out there," Gamboa said with a chuckle, "until I rounded third base." He added sheepishly: "It was only a home run. It's not like I won us a World Series!"

In 4 at-bats the Sharks first baseman collected 3 hits in his historic game, scored 3 runs, and had 4 RBI.

Over his career Gamboa is batting .287 with 301 home runs and 1104 RBIs. In 2205 games he has delivered 2243 hits, scored 1187 runs, stolen 1 bases and gotten on base at a .401 clip.

      Honea Befuddles Davenport:
Dave Honea of the Death Valley Scorpions worked his mound magic on the Davenport Brawlers. He blanked them 11-0 on 4 hits, registering 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"Making good pitches is the name of the game and I made some good ones in this one," said Honea after the game.

Currently Honea has a 6-2 won-lost record in 10 starts with a 3.32 ERA. He also has 46 strikeouts in 65 innings.

I always knew he was dirty. Being suspended 33 games is a record I'm pretty sure. If he's found guilty does he retire? Obviously we can bring him back if wanted but wow.

McCarley Cracks 5 Hits: 5 hits in a game has always been a magic number in baseball. Only a handful of players will do that. Get 5 hits in a game, and you get your moment of glory, your fifteen minutes of fame -- you get your name in the record book. In the Scorpions 4-3 win over Baltimore, Troy McCarley was red-hot today, scorching them for hit after hit at The Sandbox. "To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax. I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I must admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for a 5-hit game. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close." On his big day McCarley delivered 5 hits in 5 at-bats. Troy McCarley singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 10th.

For the year McCarley is batting .346 with 9 home runs, 31 RBIs and 33 runs scored.

Maine Announces Deal for Veteran 3B:
Rumors of a deal between Antonio Cardenas and Maine finally bore fruit today as the two sides faced a packed press corps. Guides officials looked very pleased as they outlined the terms of the new deal.

Cardenas will earn $4,000,000 per year for 1 year, and is expected to make a solid addition to his new club.

$7,000,000 Lands SP Porter for Scorpions:
Veteran starting pitcher Dave Porter put the finishing touches on a deal with the Scorpions today, agreeing to a $7,000,000, 2-year pact.

Fans were generally receptive to the deal.

2000th Hit for Pang: For Ling-lai Pang, it was a red-letter day. The Morgantown Mohawks third baseman slapped his 2000th career hit. That his team defeated the Windy City Playboys, 10-1, made it even sweeter.

His manager paid tribute to Pang after the game: "I've followed Ling-lai since he came into the league," he said. "Fine ballplayer. Fine work ethic. I'm not surprised by what he's achieved."

The 38-year-old Pang finished the day with 3 hits in 5 at-bats.

Taking a look at his lifetime stats, Pang is hitting .269 with a total of 246 home runs.

Latest Injury Report on Stuart: Ethan Stuart could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Syracuse left fielder told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 4-5 months because of a torn labrum. He hasn't played since 05/27/2015 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

Currently Stuart is batting .208 with 7 home runs and 25 RBIs.

Davidson Funeral Tomorrow in Syracuse: Jimmy Davidson has died. A spokesperson for a local Syracuse hospital reported that the Syracuse Slammers owner passed away today. Cause of death was not released. The team has scheduled a press conference for tomorrow. It is expected that son Tom will take his father's position in the organization. He has a reputation for being economizer in financial matters and tolerant in personnel matters.

Morgantown to Lose Douglas for 4 Weeks:
Jimmy Douglas could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Morgantown second baseman told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 4 weeks because of a fractured rib. He hasn't played since 06/05/2015 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

Looking at his stats this year, Douglas has compiled a .326 batting average, while hitting 1 home run and driving in 23 runs. He has played in 54 games and scored 26 runs.

Windy City Skipper Davidson Blasts Media Over Bad Press: Playboys manager, Pete Phelps, had some choice words for the Windy City media today. "Whatever happened to journalistic integrity?" the Playboys skipper asked during a live radio interview. "No one cares about reporting the facts anymore. It's all about sensationalism these days. All you guys care about is selling newspapers and driving up ratings. And I'm getting pretty damn sick of it." Phelps seemed to be referring to recent stories that have suggested the Playboys struggles as of late have been the result of off-field distractions.

One article, which accuses Adan Davidson of numerous "extracurricular indiscretions", has been a particularly sore subject for Phelps. "What players do on their own time is their business, but to imply that any of my players aren't giving it their all on the field is absolutely ridiculous," Phelps said, "and to make these kinds of accusations against someone without any proof is just plain irresponsible!"

Team officials had no comment when asked about Phelps's remarks.

Dallas's Moore Suspended: The Dallas Sharks were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's loss to Pittsburgh at The Sandlot. One in particular -- Ian Moore. Upon being called out on strikes, the Sharks shortstop gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.

But the disgruntled Moore lingered on the field for another five minutes, berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.

But it got worse after the game, when Moore told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in Braille, so he can follow along."

For his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Moore for 4 games.

This year Moore is batting .261 with 55 hits, 6 home runs, 27 RBIs, 7 walks, .291 OBP and has scored 25 runs.

Crook Cops 300th Save, California Tops Playboys 6-3: Gamer, bulldog, battler, competitor, winner.

They are all terms that have been used in the past to describe California's outstanding reliever Jamie Crook. You can now add another one to the list -- member of the 300-save club. Crook reached his historic save in the Kodiaks 6-3 victory over the Windy City Playboys. He permitted no runs and 1 hit while earning the milestone save. The relief star didn't have much to say after the game, telling reporters it was "just another save."

To date in his career Crook has 300 saves with a 30-38 record and a 2.22 ERA.

                      Yes, It's a No-No by Stanley:
In a brilliant performance at Miletich Stadium, Davenport pitcher Chaz Stanley entered an elite group today by tossing a no-hitter against the Morgantown Mohawks. Hurling a complete game he fanned 6 and walked 1 in the 6-0 victory.

In the clubhouse, Stanley said, "I was getting my off-speed stuff over so they couldn't sit on the fastball. My guys made some nice plays behind me, too, and cut off several hits."

In the current season in 11 starts, Chaz Stanley has a record of 6-4 with 51 strikeouts in 73.2 innings and a 4.15 ERA.

Alvarez Fires Shutout in Guides Win:
Today at Old Port Park Ignacio Alvarez of the Maine Guides baffled Hartford batters on 4 hits en route to a 11-0 shutout.

"He was able to keep hitters off balance and got the ball down," said the Guides skipper about his starter's performance.

Alvarez had 10 strikeouts and no walks in the game.

On his stats sheet for the year Alvarez shows a 3-5 record, 11 starts, 66.2 innings, 50 strikeouts and a 4.73 ERA.
