Pawtucket (115-47) With 8 players on the Top Players List, including all 5 starters, and a payroll of just $109 million, the Patriots should repeat as BLB Champs. No other team is close...again.
Maine (100-62) Z brought in big bat Jamie McPherson who joins former Denver star Henry Rodrigues in the heart of the order. The Guides have added some vets to the roster and brought up some youngsters to fill in the rest.
New York (62-100) The Knights continue their rebuild, as some more veterans head to greener pastures, or will be finishing up contracts this season. The trickle of prospects to the BLB level has begun in New York.
Hartford Whalers (55-107) The albatross contract era is over in Hartford. The Whalers have plenty of money to spend and invest in youth and the right free agents. This season, look for some of their youngsters to log major innings and the team to begin to show the growing pains and promise of youth.
New Orleans (94-68) The Dukes are a deceiving team. You'd think they're young because of their rebuild, but they aren't. They have experienced starters in Brummett and Brown, veteran relievers in Landis and Rodriguez, and a handful of veterans in the line-up with Oto, Milledge, Verba and Falls. If the pieces come together, this is a division winning roster.
Los Angeles (93-69) Jimmy has put together one of the most dominant rosters the last 10 seasons in LA. They make the playoffs every season on the strength of their starting rotation and the back of superstar SS Marco Lona. LA could easily win yet another division title and the Brewmasters and prove me wrong. Pat Yahn is that type of dominant pitcher.
Denver (82-80) Injuries have already taken a bite out of the roster. Young starters Manny Reyna, TJ Davis and Ron Robertson should continue to evolve, while the line-up looks to finally produce more consistently. Denver is one of those teams that should play better than they do.
Dallas (52-110) Iconic Dallas has been rebranded and the new look Sharks are extremely new look. Young players pepper the roster and they'll spend the season sorting out who is a fit and who is not. That means a lot of lost games in a tough division.
Syracuse (100-62) The Slammers are hitting their stride. Jake's team continues it's upward trend as youngsters (Nishimura, Watts, Garnett, Xiang,) enter their prime. The roster is balanced and the ceiling is high for the Slammers, who could find themselves one big upset of a series away from a title.
Pittsburgh (93-69) The Millers have been victims of injuries and roster churn the last few seasons. Always talented, the roster is loaded with players who are stars or are former stars of their previous teams. When put together, the team seems to underachieve. Maybe this season will be different.
Indianapolis (92-70) The Clowns are the darkhorse in the DL. Ryan has slowly added in house talent up the organization to the BLB level. Jimmy Gray will be a favorite to win the IL New Brew and Jon Morales is poised to take the next step towards a Stout Slugger and superstar status.
Toronto (45-117) Into a complete rebuild, the Canadians will ship pieces in and out in an effort to acquire picks and prospects for a turnaround in a few seasons.
Great stuff as always UMD. Couple of quick thoughts here on the DL:
*****The Ale for now is a 2 trick pony. Its either gonna be Maine & Pawtucket. Both will post probably 2 of the 3 best records in the DL, maybe even the BLB. Whoever wins this division might be the favorite to win the whole thing.
*****The Lager to me is still LA's division to lose, but I will say Jimmy seems to be allowing his team to slip a little. My hunch says a trade or two is likely to keep it all going, but if this team stays as is might be enough for NO or Denver to finally unseat LA's long run. All good things ALWAYS comes to an end.
*****The Pilsner is again like the Ale is very competitive top 2. Syracuse definitely can makes its divisional move, BUT here's the thing: nobody wins with youth alone.(And Ill be the first to admit haven't watched they're moves this offseason) Always need those 3-4 veterans that pulls you thru during the growing pains. Pitt has those guys. I'll mention Indy cuz UMD did, but they took a step back last season and not sure if any moves they did were enough to put them over the top.
