This has been a strange season...
*We lost several long time GMs, shifting the power structure a bit so far and opening up a divide (or bridging it?) between old school BLB GMs and all the 'new guys'.
*Realignment has brought parity to pretty much every division. There are four 60 win DL teams and four 60 win IL teams. Combined with the previous addition of the two wildcard system, half the league has some chance at making the playoffs. That's pretty different than in the past at this point.
*The trade deadline frenzy came a bit early this year, right at the beginning of July. Spurred by a deeper than usual draft (more in that in a minute) and DEN, DVS, and WIL all moving multiple significant players, the real deadline may pass today with a whimper.
*Could we see the busiest waiver trade deadline ever as teams sort out their rosters and evaluated their late season chances?
*After trading away some major veteran pieces, both DEN and DVS have turned around stagnant starts to their season.
*The Jimmy-funclown Realignment Initiative, based partly on Jimmy getting more competition has seen Jimmy create the biggest division lead (8 games) on DEN. Jimmy is one of the top 5 GMs in this game and barely says anything. He's quietly built one of the most consistent and dominant franchises in this league.
*The draft has been crucial in reviving the league. The depth and difference in scouting reports has brought value back to draft picks outside the first and second rounds without us ever having to implement those hotly contested rules and amendments about trading picks and spurring trades and player movement. There's bee a significant increase in players for picks across the first 3 rounds, but more importantly, we are seeing value into the 6th. There's an increase in late round pick trades and fringe BLB players are again in demand with the resurgence of depth in the 4th, 5th and 6th rounds of the draft.
*Matt and Brad continue to run the tightest, yet flexible league. We miss no sims, there's no worry of cheating, and the league now has a fresh feel with the new GMs while also having a deep bench of older GMs who most likely return at some point.
