  • Steve Suarez polishes Stout Slugger candidacy

<img src="http://www.simgamingnetwork.com/blb/news/html/images/person_pictures/player_8624.png"width ="135" height="203" style="border: 2px solid black;margin-right:60px;margin-bottom:13px;margin-left:13px;float:right;">PORTLAND, ME — Guides leadoff man Steve Suarez hit .367 this past week, raising his season batting average to .320, while swatting his 31st home run of the season.

The 33-year-old right fielder looks poised to capture his league-record tenth consecutive Defense With Integrity Award as well.

"Steve does so much for us," Guides manager Andrew MacGilledon said recently. "He sets the table by hitting for average and getting on-base. And as someone who's been around this league since 1978, I don't think I've seen his equal as a right fielder."

Suarez leads the Domestic League in Wins Above Replacement by a comfortable margin, while also topping the leaderboards for hits and total bases.

He also places in the top five in categories such as batting average, home runs, runs scored, slugging percentage, OPS, and extra-base hits.

Last month, he smoked two walk-off home runs in three days, beating Pittsburgh and Hartford. Combined with his June 4th two-run homer to defeat Pawtucket, Suarez clubbed a walk-off home run against all three Ale division opponents this season.

His other big highlight this season? Becoming the Guides' all-time hits leader.

He looks poised to easily pass the 200-hit mark this season while leading the league in the category.

Jamie Monson thinks that the voters should wait until the season to vote and look at all the numbers.

If memory serves correct, Ethan Bafford led the league in WAR a few years ago, didn't win. To many, WAR is not important.

He's a leader or top five in quite a few categories, as mentioned.

          Not Dingers and RBI!

And Wins are most important for pitchers and that's how I vote. Solely on wins and losses.
