"We're just happy that he decided to tough it out and come back to the game he loves." That was one of the responses to myriad of questions answered by Bulldogs' manager Turi Solis, concerning the anticipated return of Terumoto Chiba.
It has been almost a year (330 days to be exact) since the 5-time All-Star and 2-time Stout Slugger has been on the field, but on Monday he will start a 20-day rehab assignment with the Bulldogs' AAA affiliate in Annapolis.
Chiba was injured last year after being hit by a pitch, tearing his right PCL. Team doctors projected a 6 month timeline for his return, but this past off-season the former Louisiana State star exacerbated the injury and was rumored to have even considered retiring. "Terumoto is fighter. I'm sure it was tough mentally on him, but I doubt he ever really considered retirement," said the 62 year old manager.
The BLB allows players 20 days for injury rehabilitation and it is expected that Chiba will remain in Annapolis for the maximum time allotted and will likely return after the BLB All-Star game.
Terumoto Chiba has a a lifetime batting average of .333 with 205 home runs, 770 runs scored and 826 RBIs.
