1B Joey Bradshaw

With Erik Van Benschoten failing in his tryout as our 1B we now turn our attention to 2020 3rd place AAA FF Outstanding Hitter 1B Joey Bradshaw. He a Pawtucket 6th round pick from 2016. Joey has basically hit well at every level while improving his OPS with ever promotion. This season stat line .326/ .395/ .510/ .905 and moved up to #8 AAA top players list. He's 25 and really has nothing else to prove in the minors so we figure if anything he gets some at bats as we close out the season.

Scout has him as just a "eh" 5/5/5/5/5. OSA a 5/4/5/5/5 , BUT a POT of 5/5/6/5/5 which would be good enough to hold down the 1B role. 18 homeruns a personal best for him. Smart and works hard. Again 6th rounder and never expecting anything from him so this a pretty low risk move.

OF C.J. Stripling

As if you all haven't heard enough about him, here is the official debut for 19 year old outfielder, C.J. Stripling.

I would love to pat myself on the back about this promotion but in truth, it was a completely unexpected fluke that he is even in the BLB right now. Nevertheless, the former Eli Whitney Owl star has shown that he can play with the big boys at just 19 years old and, will likely start the 2021 season as a starter in right field. At 19, he obviously hasn't hit his full potential but it will be interesting to watch if my scout was right and Stripling becomes one of most talented hitters to ever don a Bulldogs uni.

SP Marco Carrasco

The goal here is to counter Delandis's every move.

Pawtucket brings up SP Marco Carrasco for a few weeks. Why??? Cuz he appears bored, I'm trying to screw Sully out of a draft picks and its good to get some major league time in. A true junk ball pitcher, he's got up to #13 on the top prospect list just sitting around and was morbidly curious how he'd perform. Scout has him at a 5-6-7 POT , OSA wel...HOT DAM WE AGREE FINALLY. Lefty's need to keep the ball on the ground in Pawtucket so he's got a ways to go. Still, he will be pitching in KC & LA this week so a bit more pitcher friendly park. Next season despite what he does he will be in Lynn till June. Its Pawtucket, we have our ways.

In the meantime......have at it.

Sean Gallion makes his Brewers League debut this week.

The catcher was the 17th overall selection in last year's draft out of Texas A&M, where he hit .379, played for the 2019 College World Series champions, was a 2020 All-American, and finished runner-up for college's top award for hitters.

The 21 year old Tacoma, Washington native rose quickly through the minor leagues and batted .384 in 99 at-bats at AAA Portsmouth this season.

RF Dave Mayer

Didn't expect him up this soon, but he's forced his way up after being drafted almost exactly one year ago. With Brazeel on the shelf for an extended period, we needed someone to fill the void and I think Mayer is the guy. Can hit, steal the occasional base, and play an above average right field.

Gil Banda is going to be making his debut. Denver drafted him in 2020 with the 7th pick in the draft.

He roared through every level while playing exceptional defense in center.

He will start as the 9 hitter but we project him to be a 3 hitter behind Ichikawa and Healey.

Not bad for a player one GM said "hates Banda."

Another said he "was a late first rounder."

A third jumped in and said his current stats "don't excite me."

Time to get excited about this late first rounder people hate. ;)

I usually try to post these before calling the player up, but all three of these guys have now seen their first BLB action.

Sepulveda is the star of this group. Brought in on a 6 year contract this offseason, the international free agent from Nicaragua quickly established himself as the top prospect in the Washington system and one of the top pitchers in the minor leagues. He's currently #4 on the Top Prospects list. Sepulveda throws in the mid 90s, projects to have 3 great pitches with great stamina as well. He'll be working mainly as a #6 starter / reliever this season, but hopefully he'll be another top-notch starter in Washington soon.

Center fielder Al Mott has seen his star rise dramatically over the past season. A lightly regarded former sixth round pick, Mott never hit well in A ball, but blew up once he moved up a level and continued to have good performances in AAA this season. I'm not sure he's deserving of the lofty #17 ranking on the Top Prospects list, but he will hopefully continue getting on base and showing a little pop in his BLB career, while also playing solid defense in the outfield and great speed on the basepaths.

Micah Garlick went undrafted in 2016, but was quickly scooped up by the Bats immediately after the draft. He's a hard worker who has shown improvement at every level in the minors and scouts think he has a chance to be a productive BLB player. He'll take over backup catching duties with an eye on replacing Tristan Moody in 2021 if Moody leaves for free agency. He's been an All-Star three consecutive years, at 3 different minor league levels.

I love Sepulveda. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch and is a future ace.

I'm pretty excited about Sepulveda. I was a bit worried handing out the contract I did and it's still a bit early to say if it's going to work out, but I like his potential. Hopefully he'll live up to the expectations I've got for him.

Catcher Dave Dominguez debut happened last week, but this week he'll be starting all week.

19th pick in the 2nd round, he went on to win multiple weekly awards in Single A, hit consistantly throughout the minors, and was named #89 on the top prospects list.

Little regarded pitching prospect Angelo Marroquin made his debut on June 21.

The 25 year old former eighth round draft pick surprised people with three solid BLB starts thus far. In his three outings, he produced a 2-1 record with a 2.42 ERA while averaging over seven innings per start. He recorded 15 strikeouts to just five walks and two home runs allowed in his 22 1/3 innings. Even left-handed-hitters own a mere .135 batting average against the young right-handed hurler.

He pitched in the AAA Horizon League All-Star Game earlier this season.

Marroquin enters the second half of the BLB season with a tenuous hold on the fifth starter job in Maine.

3B Johnny Schara

Draft 2017 Rnd 2 Pick3 Toronto

Part of the Johny Mcade deal. Been converted to 3B which I think hurt his top 100 prospect status a few years. Since then I've seen him come up at recently as this offseason. Last year the light really came on first in AA Lawrence then second half of the season in AAA Lynn hitting .350 AA & .334. Also showing some real power combining for 23 homeruns. Scout has him 5-6-6-5-5 and OSA appears the same. I don't think he's going to be a world beaters, but I do think he gonna be a solid piece to our day to day lineup. Going to sit in the DH role to start off, but should see some 3B also.

SP Dave Patterson

OSA's #29 prospect will make his BLB debut against Maine. The 24 year old left hander has started off strong in AAA, going 2-0 with a 0.99 ERA in four starts. After nearly 250 innings for Fort Wayne, he seems to have accomplished everything he could there, and hopefully he can replicate that success for the Racers.

SS Freddie 'Deacon' Mangan and just 22 years old - who is my very first pick here in BLB will get his first big start this week.

9th pick of the first round and is currently the 26th rated prospect, he normally struggles a bit hitting when entering a higher league, and then smooths out, lets see how he does..

SP Tobias Livingston

Tobias is a former 2nd round selection from the Pawtucket farm system who was acquired in the trade for former Bulldog pitcher Zack Cook. He is actually from the Baltimore area, so I'm sure he had tons of family show for his first pitch in the majors last week. Livingston really turned it on once he was traded to us and began to play in Annapolis (AAA) going 4-0 in 8 starts with a 1.60 ERA and 34 K and just 6 BB in 45 innings of work. My scout even raised his outlook for Livingston over the last scouting report from a solid mid-rotation guy to a "top of the rotation" guy. I think the new outlook is probably a bit of a stretch, I do think Tobias has the chops to be a solid pitcher for us.

I think he becomes Jerrod Blick "lite" for us.
