Not sure what looks funnier in hindsight—that he was a UDFA, or that Pat signed him and released him after he played one game for Washington's single-A club.

I was really concerned when we accidentally signed him to an unintended deal (the years offered were correct, but the structure somehow ended up being the default ask with way more money on the backside as opposed to the more level or even up front deal we would typically offer). I was fearful he would drop off a cliff while taking up 20-25% of our payroll. While it hasn't been as fruitful the last two years, he has at least managed to avoid the cliff. Moving him from behind the plate has helped, I think, and at least he doesn't absolutely embarrass himself at 1B.

He wants to test FA this year and would be well served to find a home with a DL team. He's still got some left in the tank.

or that I gave all that money to Al Hamilton which caused me to have to unload him.

Hamilton hit the shit out of the ball for you. Not sure you made a mistake.

Hey, remind me—why did you deal Hamilton in the first place?

BLB News: Roster Expansion: Few teams around baseball don't jump at the chance to call up players from the minors. It offers each club the opportunity to scout out future talents; fans the chance to dream big; and veteran players a chance to rest before the postseason kicks up.

Total Control: Hartford No-Hit by Cooney: Is it better to be good -- or lucky? After his 4-0 no-hitter over the Hartford Whalers he responded, "I don't know," said Morgantown's Jimmy Cooney with a grin. "To do what I did, I guess it takes both."

On his historic day at Samuel Stone Memorial Field Cooney made good pitches the entire game, fanned 9 and had 2 walks. When the Whalers hit the ball hard, they hit it right at someone for an out.

But that's how you get a no-hitter -- a lot of skill mixed with a little luck.

On the season Cooney has a 11-11 record with a 4.38 ERA.

BNN Stats: Batting Leaders: So, who leads the Brewers League Baseball in triples?

                        Oscar Sanchez, BAL, 11
                        Gertrudes Gambino, CHI, 8
                        Tyler Johnston, BAT, 8
                        William Kroll, MAI, 8

Arnholt Spins Shutout: Jonathon Arnholt of the Death Valley Scorpions fashioned a fine 8-0 victory over the Davenport Brawlers. He held them to 4 hits with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts in a strong outing.

                          Baltimore's Jones Hammers #300:
A big sigh of relief erupted from Jimmy Jones after he hit his 300th career homer. The Baltimore left fielder said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Jones. He got his name in the league record books with 1 hit, 1 RBI, scored 1 run and his team, the Baltimore Bulldogs beat the Los Alamos Amigos 5-2.

Jones knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 300th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Over his career Jones is batting .262 with 300 home runs and 947 RBIs. In 1614 games he has delivered 1573 hits, scored 993 runs, stolen 185 bases and gotten on base at a .354 clip.

Playoffs Officially Out of Reach for Playboys:
Windy City fans find themselves yet again looking forward to 'next year' when their team has a chance to make the playoffs. Today, the Windy City Playboys have been mathematically eliminated from getting into the playoffs this year.

Guides Clinch Playoff Spot With Victory: Today, Maine have officially claimed a spot in this year's postseason. The team punched their playoff ticket with a win yesterday. "I couldn't be prouder of this team," said skipper, Andrew MacGilledon. "These guys worked their tails off all season long, so they've definitely earned this." However, the Guides manager says he won't let his team rest on their laurels. "We've still got a long way to go to reach our ultimate goal and that's a championship trophy. So we're gonna celebrate and just let this all sink in tonight, but it's back to work tomorrow."

BNN Stats: Active Career Pitching Leaders:
