We individually have to take responsibility for how we're performing and just be supportive of our teammates. Romero's veteran leadership should help bring some team camaraderie to a club that desperately needs it to get back on track.

Wilmington Announces Signing of Brian P as New General Manager: When Wilmington made wholesale changes in the front office after last season, fans were left wondering in which direction their favorite club would head. The hiring of Brian P simply led to more questions.

"I'm the new kid on the block. I know that I've got a lot to prove to you," conceded P. "When you take over a ballclub, you don't have an offseason. There are signings, trades, meetings, arbitration, drafting the right young players. It's a year-round job. There's a lot of positives here. We're going to try to build on those and field the best team we can."

Red-Hot Nishimura Cools off Hartford: Tadaomi Nishimura came out firing strikes and when the game ended, the Slammers hurler had struck out 6 in leading Syracuse over the Hartford Whalers 4-0. Nishimura allowed just 1 hit in the ballgame.

On his stats sheet for the year Nishimura shows a 6-6 record, 16 starts, 112 innings, 90 strikeouts and a 3.29 ERA.

Jamie Raymer to Miss Games After Hurting Back While Chopping Wood: Jamie Raymer will reportedly miss a few games after injuring his back while helping a neighbor chop firewood. He felt tightness in his back afterward but felt well enough to play. After the game, he complained of back soreness and team trainer, Mel Rico, recommended he sit out the next few games. Raymer is listed as day to day while his back heals. Pittsburgh manager, Lonnie Hyde, has told Raymer he is to avoid yard work until he is fit to play again. "His neighbor can rent a wood chipper and I'll pay for it", Hyde quipped.

Dinos Yahn Has 15 Ks: The Los Angeles Dinos were victorious over the New York Knights today 1-0 at Sonata Stadium after getting an outstanding performance from starting pitcher Pat Yahn. The 28-year-old Yahn brought his top game to the mound, striking out 15 batters while allowing 2 hits and no walks. "He made a lot of good pitches out there," the New York manager said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters by swinging at everything, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."

Over the season Yahn has thrown 128.2 innings and dished out 132 strikeouts with a 11-4 mark and a 1.68 ERA.

Steen Out 6-7 Months: The medical report is in: the injury that has kept Indianapolis starting pitcher Jaden Steen out of action since 07/06/2012 will sideline him for another 6-7 months. The 25-year-old Steen, who has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament, said he heals quickly. "I'll be back soon," he said, "and I'll pick up where I left off. "

Snappers Starting Pitcher Arce Hurt: Medical officials from the Dallas Snappers reported that the club's 31-year-old starting pitcher, David Arce, suffered a strained back muscle in yesterday's matchup against the Pawtucket Patriots while throwing a pitch. Arce is expected to miss 3-4 weeks of action.

This season Arce has fanned 82 in 107 innings and collected a 5-6 record with a 3.45 ERA.

Death Valley to Lose Castillo for 4 Weeks: The latest news from the Death Valley Scorpions clubhouse is this: third baseman Edgar Castillo is expected to be out of action for another 4 weeks. He has a fractured foot, sustained on 07/06/2012. Castillo expressed a bit of relief. "At least now I know," he said.

So far this season Castillo is hitting .244 with 11 home runs, 44 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 67 hits in 275 at-bats and a .309 OBP.

          Excited

I would like to thank Matt and the rest of the BLB for allowing me to take this new role. I cannot begin to express how excited I am to take over this young and exciting ball club. I know this will be a challenge. A lot of time, effort, and hard work will be required. I want you all to know that I am ready to do what it takes to turn the Wilmington Wildcats into a championship caliber organization. Again I thank you, and am looking forward to getting started.

Red-Hot Krummen Scorches Amigos: Travis Krummen of the Bulldogs was unstoppable in today's 16-4 victory over the Los Alamos Amigos at Phillips Field. He battered them for 5 hits in 6 at-bats. "Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Baltimore second baseman after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 5-6 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will." Travis Krummen grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 8th.

This season Krummen is batting .252 with 25 RBIs, 50 runs scored and 1 home run.

Thomas Holds Whalers Scoreless: "He was too darn good for us today," grumbled the Hartford manager after his club suffered a 6-0 shutout at the hands of Jamie Thomas of the Pittsburgh Millers. He held the Hartford Whalers scoreless in a 1-hit whitewash.

Thomas was in a zone of his own most of the game and finished with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk in a strong outing.

In a postgame quote his own skipper added, "He pitched his butt off, had good velocity, good movement and had those guys off balance. Jamie did a whale of a pitching job."

To this point in the season Thomas has 9 wins and 2 losses and a 3.41 ERA.

Aten at His Best, Blanks Pawtucket: Pawtucket bats were ice cold today at Old Port Park. Maine's Robby Aten chilled them down with a 6-0 victory. In a fine outing, the 34-year-old hurler allowed 4 hits while striking out 7 and walking 2.

This season Aten has compiled a 9-2 record with a 2.43 ERA in 15 starts.

Schubert Has 20-Game Hitting Streak: The Slammers won the game today, but you would have been hard pressed to find anyone talking about it. The focus seemed to be on left fielder Fred Schubert extending his hitting streak to 20 games by going 1-for-5 in the game.

"Sure we are happy that we won, but seeing Fred extend his streak was also special," said a jubilant Syracuse manager. "He's a special player who is capable of doing some amazing things at the plate."

For the record, the Slammers defeated the New Orleans Dukes 4-0 at Henry Byrd Field.
Fred Schubert singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, grounded out in the 7th and struck out in the 9th.

This year Schubert is hitting .287 with 8 home runs.

Philadelphia Sends Griffiths to Pittsburgh: BNN has learned the Philadelphia Freedom have reportedly worked out a deal with the Pittsburgh Millers. Sources close to the Freedom indicated that a trade has been reached in principle where 21-year-old starting pitcher Tristan Schinnerer will be swapped to Philadelphia with 31-year-old third baseman Tom Griffiths, a 5th round draft pick and $2,000,000 in cash heading to Pittsburgh. Neither organization would comment on the report, saying it was club policy not to speak about a trade until it was finalized.

This season Griffiths is batting .273 with 5 home runs. His totals include 30 RBIs and 37 runs scored.

Homer #300 for Washington's Montalbo: Washington Bats slugging first baseman Jon Montalbo swatted his way to the 300 home run mark today as the Bats fell to the Los Alamos 4-3.

For his part, Montalbo chipped in 2 runs batted in, scored 1 run and collected 1 hit in 1 at-bat, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

"It was a special day for Jon," the team publicist said afterward, "He was disappointed at the result, but everyone was all smiles as he crossed home plate. We're proud of him."

Over his 1482-game career Montalbo has compiled a .248 batting average and collected 1404 hits, 300 home runs and 924 RBIs.

$3,000,000 Lands 1B Solum for Guides:
Guides officials presented Shane Solum to members of the local print media today as their new first baseman.

The deal, worth $3,000,000, guarantees the 32-year-old a home in Maine for 1 year. It should improve the ballclub, assuming he plays to his potential.
