We do like our positional flex guys. He reminds me of a few guys that have come through our organization. My scout sees him a lot like Al Anguiano, actually, but we'll see.

I was trying to move up for Hurst, then Cofield, then Becerra.

      • I've narrowed it down to three players. Fielding all last minute offers.

I'd prefer to move down into the early 2nd round but if I don't get an offer I like soon, I will make the pick. Sorry for holding up the draft the last two hours...I don't have game access and am currently in the Pacific Time Zone.

            • After receiving four separate offers and debating between two players for almost four hours...the pick is in.

Washington selects Clemson SP Enrique 'Scoops' Ortiz. OSA has him 6-6-6 potential and already 4-4-4 current. In 29 collegiate starts he is 13-7, 1.85 ERA, .96 WHIP, 175 IP and 202 Ks, with a 73.9 VORP and 281 ERA+. He's already "well known" with Very High Leadership and he has a great nickname.

He's not without flaws however. Low stamina, a major injury that knocked his stuff potential, low work ethic and a BABIP of .271.

Not sure he was the best player available but my organization is short on SP prospects and I thought he was a safest bet to end up a solid mid-rotation starter in a few years.

                    • Becerra was going to be my pick at 1.19 but I talked myself into Nies. There was another OF I thought would be a "decent" consolation prize if available at 2.5 and I didn't think there was another pitcher of similar makeup after Nies.

                      But yes, Becerra is nice.

                      • Manny Reyna was definitely considered at 1.23. And after looking it all over again, I think he might be the better prospect.

I don't know what my scout thinks but there is a lot to like about Reyna. 6-5-5 from OSA, 5-4-3 current with steady development during his four years at OSU. Hits 97MPH on the gun, has great stamina, never been injured and has really nice intangibles. Never won any awards, made the post-season or had any amazing single games. But he looks like a very safe bet to be a mid-rotation starter in Denver for a long time.

If he becomes a #3 for 10 years in Denver, I might have to eat crow on the DVS trade.

                        • So Pat kind of already said a lot for me, but here goes.

I love Manny Reyna. You might not, but I don't care because I do. He was the ace of a pretty bad pitching Oregon St. team that gave him no chance with that bullpen. His outfield sort of reminds me of mine so, yeah, that will need to be fixed because I'm sure it didn't help with his BABIP.

He pretty much improved every year. He struck out over 9 per and fits the mold. Never got to play for a winner, but he will do that in my minor league system. I disagree about not having any amazing games. His last one in college was pretty freaking amazing.

And my scout who gets a huge scouting budget says Reyna is pretty close to ready. We will take our time with him, but still nice to know he could be up by 2013, 2014 the latest.

Of course, adding him meant we needed to add Cash's contract. So we shall see.

                              • Not much for trading up and wanted to this AM so I could get to sleep and couldn't. After sending out a message to Cali I fell asleep and almost forgot. Sorry for the delay.

So anyways we'll take G Perritt. VH work ethic. Great fielder. Almost .400 OBP three years in college. I don't go by my scout but he's the only batter left he actually says something nice about.
