Neubauer Shuts out Washington: In an almost effortless performance, Adan Neubauer of the Guides shot down the Bats 6-0 on a 6-hit shutout.

His skipper said, "Adan was just locating so well and using his pitches... not leaving anything over the plate."

Neubauer recorded 6 strikeouts and no walks in a strong outing.

In the postgame press conference, the Washington manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him."

This season Neubauer has compiled a 11-6 mark with a 3.25 ERA.

Patriots Chill Nazario's Hot Streak: Javier Nazario, right fielder for the Morgantown Mohawks, gave it a good try, but his day in history finally came to an end, when he went hitless in 4 tries against the Pawtucket Patriots. Not only had they stopped his 21-game hitting streak, they had beaten Morgantown 8-4, too.

Speaking with the media after the game, Nazario said, "Now that the streak has ended, I admit I will breathe a bit easier the next time I step up to bat. It was tough because I put a little pressure on myself. Now that it's over, I will definitely be a little bit looser at the plate."

Thus far this season Nazario has hit .270 with 20 home runs, 58 RBIs and scored 57 times.

New York Hexed: No-Hit by Mejia: It was a game that all pitchers dream about: a no-hitter.

It happened today at Tobs Stadium.

Edgar Mejia of the Carolina Tobs was right on target against the New York Knights in his 4-0 victory. He really zeroed in on them, holding them hitless with 12 strikeouts and 1 walk.

Mejia said he just had it all today, "Very good stuff and great location, a combination that's hard to beat."

Thus far this season, Mejia has tossed 148.1 innings in 24 starts, fanned 189 batters, walked 22 and put up a 2.61 ERA with 14 wins and 5 losses.

Guides Allow Aten to Attend Birth of Child: Robby Aten has a pretty good reason to miss a game: the birth of his child. Aten left early this morning to return home to be with his expecting wife. "I talked to him a little while ago", commented Guides manager Andrew MacGilledon. "He was as excited as a new father can be." Aten is expected back in uniform in a couple of days.

Goeman Expected to Miss 4 Months:
J.R. Goeman could soon be placed on the disabled list. The Los Angeles closer told reporters that he expects to be "out of commission" for 4 months because of shoulder inflammation. He hasn't played since 08/26/2011 and, he said, he's "itchin' to get back out there."

For the year Goeman has 37 saves. In 59 relief appearances he has hurled 57 innings, fanned 60 and issued 16 walks with a 2-8 record. The Los Angeles reliever has recorded a 3.00 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .198 when he is on the hill.

Un-four-gettable: Ortiz Hits for Cycle: Fernando Ortiz of Carolina helped his team in a big way today, hitting for the cycle in their 10-4 win against the Windy City Playboys. His 4 hits, 2 RBI and 3 runs runs led the way for the Tobs.

Fernando Ortiz singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off R.J. Wajda in the 4th, struck out in the 6th and tripled in the 8th.

Currently Ortiz is batting .279 with 9 home runs, 37 RBIs and 70 runs scored.

Bang-up Game: Dunn Slams 3 Homers: T.J. Dunn, the Toronto first baseman, blasted three homers today at Toronto Stadium in the Canadians 11-5 victory against the New York Knights.

For the game, T.J. Dunn scored 4 times and knocked in 4 runs. When he hit his last home run, his teammates, hearing the crack of the bat, leaped off the bench and rushed on the field to greet the jubilant Dunn, when he reached home plate.

In the clubhouse after the game, he gleefully said to the press, "It was just one game, but it sure was a lot of fun -- 4-for-5, three roundtrippers and a win. What a day!"

So far this season, Dunn has recorded a .317 batting average with 160 hits, 39 home runs, 108 RBIs, 78 runs scored and a .366 OBP.

B.J. Jobe to Retire: The prognosis was not good. Medical tests were performed. And now, as a result of a torn labrum, B.J. Jobe has made up his mind to retire from baseball. The Davenport center fielder said he struggled with the decision. Ultimately, he said, "I had to do what's best for me and my family." A team spokesperson said that a formal announcement would be issued later today.

Jobe is batting at a .273 pace this season, picking up 150 hits in 549 at-bats with 1 home run, 31 RBIs and 64 runs scored.

Solum Torches Canadians for 5 Hits: It was a hits blitz for Shane Solum at Toronto Stadium. The Los Angeles Dinos first baseman tore into Toronto for 5 hits in 6 at-bats and wrote his name into the record book. But it wasn't enough to win the game. The Toronto Canadians swept past the Dinos 7-6 to ruin the day for him. The Los Angeles manager bemoaned his pitching, saying, "We fell behind and weren't locating well. Once you get behind in the count, you have to make real good pitches, rather than good pitches, and we weren't able to do that today. Bad location was the story of the ballgame. That's why we lost the game. The Canadians got too many good looks today, and we paid for it." Shane Solum hit an RBI single in the 2nd, struck out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 8th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th.

For the year Solum is batting .329 with 157 hits and 18 home runs. He has scored 59 times and driven in 63.

Goto Goes 5-5: It was a big day for Roberto Goto of the Philadelphia Freedom. He led his club to a 15-0 victory over the California Kodiaks today at In-N-Out Field. The 36-year-old first baseman smoked Kodiaks pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats. Roberto Goto hit a solo-shot off Dave Porter in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Dave Porter in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th.

Brawlers Chill Feliciano's Hot Streak: Mohawks first baseman Hector Feliciano was one of the hottest hitters in baseball, coming into today's game against Davenport with a 23-game hitting streak. However, the Brawlers put a chill in his bat, at least for today, and held him hitless in 4 at-bats during the Davenport 5-1 triumph at Mountaineer Park.

This year Feliciano has hit at a .288 clip with 112 RBIs, 37 home runs and 81 runs scored.

Injured Trottier Out 5 Months: The injury that has kept Tom Trottier out of action since 09/07/2011 will keep him out a while longer. Los Alamos Amigos officials made the announcement this afternoon. They said that Trottier is expected to miss at least 5 months with radial nerve compression.

In the 2011 campaign Trottier has 29 saves. In 59 relief appearances he has tossed 64.2 innings, struck out 75 and yielded 10 walks with a 2-6 record. The Los Alamos reliever has recorded a 2.37 ERA and allowed the opposition to hit .192 when he is in the game.

Lowe Receives Injury Update: Team officials for the Los Angeles Dinos have revealed that the recent injury to J.R. Lowe will keep him out for 5-6 weeks. The 31-year-old center fielder suffered a torn hamstring on 09/07/2011. He has not played since.

This season Lowe is hitting at a .244 pace with 18 home runs, 58 RBIs and has scored 63 times.

New Orleans Owner Nagata Passes Away, Son Replaces Him: Despondent and forlorn are the streets of New Orleans today. The New Orleans Dukes baseball team has lost its leader, owner Mitsuru Nagata. He died suddenly yesterday, while on vacation. Club officials briefed the press today on the situation and released funeral plans. Services will be held day after tomorrow in New Orleans. As far as who will take over for Nagata, the New Orleans Dukes spokesman indicated it would be dealt with in the near future, but he had no word on who the successor would be. Press speculation is that Nagata's son, Pat, would be his replacement as owner. The younger Nagata was characterized by sources high up in the New Orleans Dukes hierarchy as charitable when it comes to money and tolerant when it comes to management.

League Suspends Seeley and Davis for Brawl: After an intense confrontation, both the Guides Troy Seeley and the Dukes Troy Davis were handed their punishments today. The league commissioner's office issued suspensions for an on-the-field conflict that occurred at a recent Maine-New Orleans game. Both players will miss 2 games as a result of their actions.

"Sometimes we go too far and have to pay the consequences," Troy Seeley commented later. "Hopefully cooler heads will prevail the next time we play."

This season Seeley is batting .284 with 129 hits and 17 home runs. He has scored 64 times and has 70 runs batted in.

To date this season Davis sports a 5-9 mark with a 5.79 ERA in 14 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .262 batting average and has 116 strikeouts in 105.2 innings.

Millers Hightower Fans 15 Clowns: Pittsburgh got the best of the Indianapolis Clowns today at Kennywood Park. They won the game 6-1 behind the fine pitching of A.J. Hightower, who totaled 15 strikeouts in a sensational outing. Hightower notched the victory by holding the Clowns to 5 hits, while giving up no walks.

To date Hightower is 14-7 in 30 starts with a 3.09 ERA and has 261 strikeouts in 192.1 innings.

Trujillo Reaches 3500: For Dani Trujillo, it was a red-letter day. The California Kodiaks shortstop slapped his 3500th career hit. That his team defeated the Seattle Reign, 11-9, made it even sweeter.

His manager paid tribute to Trujillo after the game: "I've followed Dani since he came into the league," he said. "Fine ballplayer. Fine work ethic. I'm not surprised by what he's achieved."

The 42-year-old Trujillo finished the day with 1 hit in 3 at-bats.

In 2987 games Trujillo has a career .291 batting average and a .364 on-base percentage. He has hit 223 home runs with 1255 RBIs and 1892 runs scored.

Tobs Mejia Fans 18 Mohawks: It was a very special game for Edgar Mejia today at Tobs Stadium in Carolina. He had the perfect delivery. The good fastball. The nasty curve. The batters mumbling and muttering when they swung and missed. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it. In an unforgettable performance the 33-year-old Mejia fanned 18 strikeouts Mohawks and sparked the Carolina Tobs to a 3-2 victory over Morgantown. His catcher commented, "I don't think I have seen him throw better. His location and command were really something." In addition to his 18 strikeouts, Johnson allowed no hits and 4 walks in a superlative outing. His manager added, "It's a manager's day off when you get pitching like that." The Morgantown skipper had no comment.

Mejia has fashioned a 18-5 mark for the season, 2.57 ERA and thrown 175.1 innings in 28 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .202 against him.

Despite Today's Loss, Guides Make Playoffs:
Some people may say the Maine Guides fell backwards into the playoffs after clinching a playoff spot after today's loss. None of those people are in the team's clubhouse. "I am so proud of this team", said Guides manager, Andrew MacGilledon. "Despite today's loss, this is something we have worked towards all year long. We are not going to let a single games outcome after an entire season of winning tarnish that." Winning indeed. The Maine Guides are currently sitting at a record of 88-59 and in second in the Domestic League Ale Division.

Soto and Clarke Brawl, League Suspends Them: Following a mass brawl, the league has suspended David Soto of Carolina and Tyler Clarke of Death Valley. The players will have to sit out 9 games each after trouble flared up between the Tobs and the Scorpions at a recent game at Tobs Stadium.

This year Soto has socked 59 hits in 253 at-bats for a .233 average with 7 home runs. He is getting on base at a .292 pace and his totals also include 30 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

In 27 starts this season Clarke has gathered 16 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 166.2 innings, allowed 140 hits, struck out 144 and has a 2.81 ERA.

Snappers Win Domestic League Pilsner Division: The Dallas clinched a postseason berth today, officially capturing the Domestic League Pilsner Division division title.

The Dallas Snappers' clubhouse was filled afterwards with jubilant teammates showering each other with champagne. Manager, Luis Manuel Fadaly, praised his club, saying, "We were underdogs from the beginning, but we pulled it off. I couldn't be more proud of this group of guys for getting it done. Now our goal is to bring a championship to Dallas!"

Hopefully the team can get some sleep after what's sure to be a late night celebrating!

                                Whalers Mathematically Eliminated from Playoffs:
With games left to play, the Hartford no longer have anything to play for except for pride and their fans. With their record of 57-87, they have mathematically been eliminated from making the playoffs this year. Hartford Whalers manager, Jerry Holleman, says that pride is more than enough. "We are going to win every game we possibly can. That's a promise."
