Torres Receives Injury Update: The injury that has kept Alex Torres out of action since 06/27/2011 will keep him out a while longer. New Orleans Dukes officials made the announcement this afternoon. They said that Torres is expected to miss at least 9 months with a torn rotator cuff.

To date Torres is 4-8 in 15 starts with a 5.04 ERA and has 54 strikeouts in 94.2 innings.

Kodiaks Trujillo and Scorpions Marrujo Suspended for Fight: Dani Trujillo of California and Jonathan Marrujo of Death Valley were the main participants in a recent bench-clearing brawl and today the league handed out its punishment. They will both miss 8 games because of their fight. League officials announced their suspensions today.

Trujillo currently has a .238 batting average with 45 hits, 5 homers, 27 RBIs, 25 runs scored and a .316 OBP.

Denver's William Eckstein Suffers Setback: Denver got some bad news today concerning second baseman William Eckstein. He is recovering from a sprained ankle. Club doctors have extended his time of return to 3-4 weeks, saying his injury has not responded well to treatment. It is worse than they first diagnosed.

This season Eckstein is batting .324 with 68 hits, 7 home runs, 30 RBIs, .377 OBP and has scored 30 runs.

Castellanos Hears from Medical Staff: The medical report is in: the injury that has kept Hartford starting pitcher Willie Castellanos out of action since 07/03/2011 will sideline him for another 2-3 months. The 33-year-old Castellanos, who has a herniated disc, said he heals quickly. "I'll be back soon," he said, "and I'll pick up where I left off. "

Looking at his season stats, Castellanos has won 4 and lost 9, collecting 87 strikeouts and 24 walks in 108 innings with a 3.92 ERA.

Beating up on that old man. Marrujo ought to be ashamed of himself.

Haraguchi Goes Cycling: It was a special day for Hidetoshi Haraguchi at Lawrence Stadium. The 28-year-old Haraguchi racked up 2 singles, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run to get his name mentioned in the record book. For the game he was 6-7 with 3 runs batted in and 3 runs scored.

In the words of the Los Alamos manager, "He hit everything we threw. There was just no getting him out today."

Hidetoshi Haraguchi hit an RBI triple in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off B.J. Watts in the 6th, singled in the 7th, doubled in the 10th, doubled in the 12th and walked in the 13th.

Schiefelbein Tosses Shutout Against Los Angeles: Sonata Stadium played host to a command performance by Jimmy Schiefelbein of the Denver BC. One hit by the great Marco Lona in the 5th is the difference between a great start and immortality for Schiefelbein. So close.

Considering he only has 3 home runs at home and our poor road record, this is actually quite unbelievable.

Guerrero Suffers Injury While Jogging: Edwin Guerrero of the Kodiaks was injured today during his routine morning jog. "I twisted my ankle while I was jogging. Doesn't seem too bad, but I'm going to get it checked out to be safe." Manager Zach Ross commented, "I would put his odds of playing today at less than 50/50. It's just not really worth risking further injury."

Star CL Signs Extension with Death Valley: Death Valley fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Jamie Gruell won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 3-year extension at a pay rate of $5,500,000 per annum.

Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, Death Valley officials had to keep Gruell from jumping ship.

To date Gruell has 1 save with a 2-1 mark and 2.48 ERA. Opposing teams are hitting .201 against him.

Nishimura Holds Clowns Scoreless: Syracuse's Tadaomi Nishimura brought his "A game" to the park, shutting down and shutting out the Indianapolis Clowns 4-0. He racked up 5 strikeouts, surrendered 5 hits and issued 3 walks on his way to the victory.

This season Nishimura has gone 5-12 with an ERA of 4.25, posting 111 strikeouts in 131.1 innings.

5-6 Day for Arbini: California right fielder Ernie Arbini went 5-for-6 today and paced the Kodiaks to a 7-6 victory over the Batavia Muckdogs at In-N-Out Field. Ernie Arbini hit an RBI single in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Diego Martinez in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 10th.

Hickman Leaves Team After Death of Close Relative:
Tragedy has struck Knights reliever Pat Hickman. Hickman will spend the next few days being with his family after the sudden passing of a close relative. "This is a sad and difficult situation for me. I would appreciate some privacy through this tough time for me and my family. Baseball will still be here when I get back."

                            Chiba to Miss 6-7 Months:
The latest news from the Baltimore Bulldogs clubhouse is this: first baseman Terumoto Chiba is expected to be out of action for another 6-7 months. He has a torn posterior cruciate ligament, sustained on 07/20/2011. Chiba expressed a bit of relief. "At least now I know," he said.

This year Chiba is hitting .326, produced 73 RBIs and 18 home runs, scored 56 times and gotten on base at a .353 rate.

Big Win for Bats Rodriguez, Gets Save #300:
                            Gamer, bulldog, battler, competitor, winner.
They are all terms that have been used in the past to describe Washington's outstanding reliever David Rodriguez. You can now add another one to the list -- member of the 300-save club. Rodriguez reached his historic save in the Bats 5-3 victory over the Carolina Tobs. He permitted no runs and 1 hit while earning the milestone save. The relief star didn't have much to say after the game, telling reporters it was "just another save."

Lifetime Rodriguez has been credited with 300 saves, while compiling a 44-50 won-lost mark.

                            California-Philadelphia Fight Results in Suspensions
: One player challenged the other with some angry words at the Kodiaks-Freedom game at In-N-Out Field yesterday. There was some pushing and shoving -- then the dugouts emptied. There was a lot of scuffling, but no punches thrown. When order was finally restored and the dust settled, the umpires ejected California's Danny Amaya and Philadelphia's Jamie Stidham.

Now both antagonists will get some time off, courtesy of the league commissioner. They were suspended 10 games for inappropriate and aggressive behavior.

This year Amaya has hit at a .242 clip with 70 hits, 2 home runs, 22 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

To this point in the season Stidham has 2 saves in 45 relief appearances with a 4-3 record and 3.89 ERA.

                            Haraguchi's 20-Game Hitting Streak Ends:
The Baltimore Bulldogs did something to Hidetoshi Haraguchi no team had done for the last 20 games -- they held him hitless and stopped his consecutive-game hitting streak. But they didn't stop the Muckdogs. Batavia came away with a 4-2 victory at Lawrence Stadium.

Commenting on the demise of the streak, the 28-year-old first baseman told BNN, "Hey, I knew it wasn't going to last forever, but it was a good ride while it lasted."

In 93 games this season Haraguchi has compiled a .304 batting average with 102 hits and 17 home runs. He has also scored 68 times and knocked in 51 runs.

Marco Lona Out for 4 Weeks:
Marco Lona of the Los Angeles Dinos could be headed for the disabled list after suffering a torn abdominal muscle in a game against the Pawtucket Patriots. He is expected to miss at least 4 weeks. The Los Angeles shortstop was injured running the bases.

This season Lona has hit at a .304 clip and produced 52 runs batted in, 15 home runs and 57 runs.

Baltimore is snake bitten this season. Sucks because he is my favorite player outside of my team. With Ybarra pending diagnosis I hope Del doesn't jump out of the owners box.
