  • So in the 2nd round we pick up Iwaki who along with Dylan Anthony should show some power. I think Iwaki has the better chance to be a complete hitter but if I had to choose I think Anthony will have more power when it's all said and done.

In the 3rd we went with Dave Hallock passing on Andrews, Palmer, and Bromley all of whom I liked a lot at that point. Settled on Hallock mainly due to is elite WE.

Really wanted him as well. Almost took him at 3.4 but I thought he'd hang around. Damn.

I like avoid K's.... That's why I was excited when I landed 1B Dave Higgins 7 contact and 7 avoid K's. Not bad for late 2nd round, I was going to trade to snag him.

That type of combination is working out well for me right now with Alex Molinar.

Very OSA impressive. My scout only had one player with a contact of 6 this whole draft! He did have a lot of 5 guys.

I'll stick with solid draft, possibly a deep draft but more role player types then superstars. Probably a much needed draft to build some minor league depths amongst the BLB.

                • I appreciate the commentary in this thread about players I'll never hear of again once the draft is over.

                  • Thanks Z, still a long way to go. Don't go jinxing it or anything, just need to hit on a few guys. The rebuild will be in full swing sooner than later.

Speaking of, I'll use this cue to mention your 2nd round pick, 1B Nobuyaki Iwaka. I really like the kid and should have taken him at 2.6, but thought his poor OSA stats and lack of defense would let him slip to 2.14, of course, I was wrong.

My scout likes Iwaki, had him as the third best pure hitter in the draft, with decent power, a nice eye, and passable contact. His OSA ratings don't make sense, so I think they're wrong; if his Avoid K rating is accurate at 6, that would mean his true contact rating would be something abysmal - and if that's the case, he doesn't hit .466 even against average HS competition.

I bet he ends up being something like 5-3-6-6-5 or something, which with the direction our young hitters are going ratings wise, could be handy one day. Not sure he's a fit in the IL, though. Nice pick D.

He's definitely worth a gamble at that point. My scout doesn't have him anything close to the OSA rating but his stats were pretty damn good. He's only 18 and has very low work ethic, so the odds are stacked against him but he was my favorite hitter on the board at that point.

The draft isn't until 6/16...it's only 5/17 in game. That means the draft sim won't be until Feb 11th real time, almost a week and half away. We have time.
