I'll trade my 1st round pick to move up since no one seems to like the picks. I can draft someone I like and you can draft whatever garbage you'll get anyway. Everyone wins.

I'll do the same for each round I have a pick.

It's a solid 2 round draft. It's liking some star power so your drafting a bit on hunches. Overall 20 of 24 teams in round one should get a top 100.

Pawtucket drafted a bit early this year.

So which rating, in your opinion is better? For example, which side (OSA or Scout) do you give 51% of the decision to?

For us, the scout usually is the 1st guideline especially those first 3 rounds. Next stats, but more for trending since stats especially high schoolers/ Intl can be thru the roof (is he getting better? Why is a projected power hitter only hit 5 zingers a season). OSA is our cross reference and possibly a main tool in the later rounds.(Why such a difference? Prefer to have semi agreement) Finally, gut. Does he fit the Pawtucket DNA?

We all have our things. Sometimes you have great draft runs(We hit a lot of 2nd/3rd rounders late 90s). Then you have seasons you just scratch your head (Paw 92-95)

There's definitely some guess work involved.

I'm sure there are certain ratings or characteristics guys look for when drafting as well.

It's changed quite a few times for me over the years.

I find myself paying much more attention to the scout's written report in this version than I used to (maybe I always should have been). Just seems more cases these days where the bars say one thing, the scouting report says another and the actual experienced results seem to more closely align with the written report.

That doesn't necessarily help with drafting, per se, because according to my scout there's seemingly been like 10 players worthy of a minor league career in the last 3 drafts combined.

I go big on intangibles. For example in the '06 draft, I debated between Washington's DJ Nelson and our current outfielder, Oscar Sanchez. I thought Nelson would have the better upside, plus he was a switch hitter. As you can see so far Nelson has outplayed Sanchez but I very rarely draft guys with low intelligence or WE. I don't regret the choice.

If you have low both it's almost a guarantee you won't be playing in Baltimore no matter how good your scouting looks.

Stats and intangibles seem to be big in '14. In the OOTP forums search "scout evaluation" under OOTP 14 and there is a lot of info. One thing that most say is written reports were never updated with the new scouting system and should be disregarded.

I pay less attention to the overall, but do pay attention to the individual reports. Example : Overall/ Will become a star yet... Hitting : overal hitter. Power : Lacks over the fence power. Eye: Will swing at your cat. Lol, reminds me of moneyball "if he's such a great hitter, why doesn't he hit good?"

Stats: I still don't put much stock in high school or Intl players with 62 at bats. This version is far worse for HS since some of these guys don't get a chance to even play. Hope they fixed that in 15 or 16. Don't get me wrong, if a HS players has a career BA of .237 I might stay clear of the kid.
