In Maine, we just grabbed Tom Wallace at the end of the third round. I'm excited by this pick.
Presumably the only reason he went this late is because he blew out his shoulder in his first start of the 2010 college season.
Yes, it's a problem.
Still, he has great intangibles and was productive in college, especially his freshman season. Both OSA and my scout think he has the ability to contribute to a rotation. Plus, OSA already has him 5/4/4, so the lost development time while recovering from the injury doesn't hurt much.
Pretty satisfied with how the Millers draft has gone to this point.
I think there's a real chance that Shook opens as a top 100 prospect, and Peller may as well, although I think this draft was just so strong he may not initially begin on the top 100 list, and hopefully he can make his way onto the list at some point!
With no second round picks (they all belonged to RobD, who's just having himself a great draft, I agree with Z!) We managed to draft two guys in the third round who we believe may someday reach the BLB.
Ted Kessler: 6'2, 18 year old, OSA thinks he could have three 6+ pitches and has him at 6-4-6, My scout has him as 5-5-5 potential. Numbers were a bit scary but in the third round I thought it was worth a flyer.
Also, happy to draft the cleanup hitter of the 2-time National Champion Oklahoma State Cowboys, and our first round pick Dave Shook's partner-in-crime 3B, Jimmy Andrews.
Andrews protected Shook by batting in the cleanup spot of the lineup. OSA has him 4-4-5-5-5, my scout is similar in his views, and maybe playing in Reading with Shook will help him to progress and receive a development boost! (or not, either way).
I feel like if you KNOW the draft is going on and you KNOW your pick is coming up soon, you should either ...
A. Check in periodically to make sure that you're not slowing down the entire fucking process
B. Take the 3 seconds to click the tiny little box that says "Auto-Pick" and be on your way.
Here's to hurrying this damn thing up and everyone putting Auto-Pick on!

With Washington's last two selections, 2.11 and 4.2, the Bats go with two 18-year-old catchers in Willie de Jesus and Dusty Bua.
De Jesus is a poor man's Mal "The Crow" Brady, for those that still remember the free-swinging slugger. My scout has him 5-5-6-4-4 potential, #19 on his draft list and thinks of him as a journeyman with skills to stick. OSA has him 6-6-6-3-5. Against "average" High School competition in his one year removed from Cuba, he dominated hitting .466 with a 1.345 OPS. He can't run, is an average at best backstop, has average intangibles and has a long way to go with development but I think we might have landed a decent player.
Two rounds later, Bua was selected over a handful of pitchers I had ranked right in the same area. My scout has him just 3-5-5-4-3, but OSA has the switch-hitter 4-6-4-6-3 and #48 on his draft list. In 104 career HS games, Bua walked 79 times for a .397 OBP. He too can't run, play great defense nor does he have good intangibles, but I hope between the two of them, either de Jesus or Bua will eventually become a serviceable catcher down the road.
